2004 Oil Pan Removal

Has anyone pulled their oil pan recently? Truck is below in sig (04 2500, Auto, 4x4). Alldata says to remove the transmission, it sounds like this is so you can just slide the pan out the back. It looks like you should just be able to jack the motor up out of its mounts enough to squeeze the pan out of there. If it gets tight I was thinking of loosening the cab bolts and jacking the cab just a hair to gain more clearance between the oil pan and crossmember. I saw reference to a post where someone on here did this, I am wondering if this actually worked for anyone?

All guidance is greatly accepted!!!

the pickup tube will catch the front of the pan you will have to lift the motor up at least 6 inches to clear and then you will have the trans adaptor plate to deal with

I have taken the cab off on late model gas trucks to replace engine but not diesel truck yet. I have replaced several oil pans on diesel trucks for drain plugs leaking. I had to pull trans on these trucks. Trans takes about hour to pull on lift with good trans jack. You will still need to jack engine up to gain access to oil pickup tube since it has to come out with pan. Not one of my fun jobs to do. Pays pretty good if not warranty, replace rear main seal if it shows sign of leakage. If high mileage truck and manual trans check out clutch, might be good time to replace it. Good Luck

Just wanted to wrap this up... It was much easier to simply unbolt the motor mounts (fan shroud did not need to be removed), and jack up the engine for clearance. We did need to jack the cab up about 2 or 3 inches as well, but it was enough room to sneak our hands in and undo the pickup tube. We spent about 2 hours fiddling around with the engine mounts before we realised they were in slotted holes, if we had to do it again, I'd say we could have a new pan and gasket in within 5 or 6 hours. So those of you with 4x4s that are wondering the best way of doing this... it's much easier to jack the engine than to pull the tranny and all the other riff raff that comes with that!
