Think you have 2 different posts confused. The fried ECMwas in another post. Nothing about the ECM yet. Codes were from key off/on 3 times, not a scan tool. No one was at dealership today that "Knows anything about Diesel". Just looking at damage and what they can fix/repair at this time. Havent tried anything like running Engine until after removing damaged parts and seeing what else is wrong then how long they need to order replacement parts. I did try to start prior to seeing damage but not after.

Thanks...Don

I did have 2 different jobs confused. One is an ECM problem and yours is just (?) a crashed fan and some wiring. At least your ECM runs.

Sorry for the confusion.

Not that it is any of my business, but did they/you get your truck running today ?

I'm hoping the best for you.

Aside: you Dodge guys have grown on me since my conversion. Hmmm....

Angry Update today at noon or so

Please remember this is being typed from a laptop and fat fingers.

Don't know what all is transpiring but did find out noon today that Floridia dealership and Michigan dealership general managers have been on the phone a lot today. Also have district manager from DC coming in to inspect truck Wed am. Flordia dealer claims very shoddy workmanship caused all the problems. Timing cover plug stripped/crossthreaded, couple other bolts stripped, and that was only the things I heard. They werent speaking much other than this little bit of info. They think they have all needed parts in stock to repair what they can see damaged but waiting for rep to approve how they will get paid etc. Definatly not warranty issue for them or DC, just the Jackson Mi dealer I would think. Now all I'm waiting for is who and how will rental car be paid for. Going on second day at my cost of $40 per day.

This is a bunch of crap, shoddy workmanship and leaving me stranded for 3 days...

Now someone is going to pay......

I keep hearing about dealership problems and guess I am too much a believer to think it could happen to me. Guess I am still stewing inside and it's probably a good thing I'm in Flordia and not in Jackson Mi right now.

I'm glad to hear it isn't worse. At least they agreed the dealer was at fault. Sorry to hear your holidays got messed up.

As I mentioned in your other post, I find it hard to believe a tech would go through the pita of removing that fan just to access the front plug for the CP3 nut.

According to the 05 shop manual, removing the shroud and fan is standard procedure.

From 14-111, Volume 3 (paraphrasing...)

1) battery cables
2) intake manifold air intake tube. (intercooler tube to you and me)
3) fan shroud
4) fan assembly
5) accessory drive belt
6) clean everything
7) FCA
8,9,10) fuel lines
11) plastic cover
12) gear mounting nut
13) gear with puller
14) pump nuts.

The pump housing needs an O Ring when it is put back on. Must be tightened carefully.

I'm fearless with this shop manual in front of me. That might be a bad thing some day. It has a lot of info in it.

CP3 change is about the same as changing the high pressure oil pump on the Powerstroke. We didn't remove the fan for it, but it was in the way. It is gear drive as well. Had to remove the fuel filter assembly from the V, or at least get it back a ways. When you pulled that pump, about a quart of dirty engine engine oil floods into the engine V. Actually, when you work on a Powerstroke, everything ends up in the engine Vee. Under the turbo, or worse yet, under the fuel filter assembly.

Fan nut torque is 85 ftlbs for an 05. Doesn't say anything about loctite. It takes a 36mm wrench and the threads are right hand. See page 7-47 in Volume 1 of the shop manual.

40 bucks a day for wheels??
Last time I rented in Tampa (June) I paid 13 bucks a day unlimited mileage.
Is it really worth it to get that mad over a truck?? Bummer the truck went down on you but
be glad the dealers are working together. Deal with it when you get back home. Enjoy your holiday.

Finally something concrete going on. Timeline set.

District mgr called me today and confirmed that Mich dealer is sending a check to Flordia dealer express and truck should be paid for and done tomorrow provided there are no other problems. (Need to replace parts prior to doing anything else). Then called Mich dealer and he stated that he had also Ok'ed rental car and asked Flordia dealer to make necessary arrangments.

OK still going on, Mich dealer didn't make any rental arraingments yet as of 5 pm today. I am expecting them to call Enterprise and pay for this rental. More phone calls tomorrow I guess.

Still problems, dealer found more "cut" wires. Don't know if he is repairing or replacing. Think at this point want replaced. Waiting for a call later this PM. Mechanical is replaced but still wouldn't start. Per Flordia dealer "still workmanship problems" Don't know if they are playing games or not but at this point guess that is between Fl and Mi dealer.

As far as $40 per day rental, that is cheap as far as what I could find. This was special rate from Enterpricse to Chrysler, all pre arrainged. Would think that you might get a little upset if you pulled into campground with 35' fiver and shut off truck and all H$** broke loose then you had to arrainge getting camper to lot, towing for truck and a way to get around for 3 days as you had no transportation until rental companies opened Tuesday due to New years holiday. Guess I would call that a bit more than a little inconvience wouldn't you?

Sorry for the rant but had to say it.

Don

Hopefully this will end this saga. If not maybe a new truck is in the offing with a paid for 80K warranty. Will see.

Talking End of this Saga I hope

Michigan dealer paid for rental car, and I got truck back this afternoon.

Fan, upper & lower shroud, Fan electronic hub and some wiring repair.
5 hours labor. Total bill not including rental car from Flordia dealer was over $1200. They required Michigan dealer to pay up front prior to me receiving truck back. Took over 3 hours of calls back & forth to complete but all is done now. Truck has been cleaned up underneath but sides etc still oily. Also lost second (in 2000 miles) pressure relief valve (that was the warranty item) and that was why truck wouldn't start again. Probably a good thing under the circumstances. Tech claims a particle of dirt was stuck in valve, didn't like my Baldwin fuel filter but didn't make an issue of it other than to change it to a fleetguard that I had under the seat. Baldwin came from a Cummins dealer and is on the approved list but after this week did not want any issues so told tham to change it. $36.50 labor & if I had them supply filter another $38 for the filter.

Finally feel like I driving a vehicle again.
