Messy oil change

Man i just changed my oil for the 4th time and this one was the messiest yet! The problem was when i removed the oil filter it started running all down my arm and all over the frame which it has never done before when just loosening the filter. I did all this about 15 minutes after shutting down the truck.

I am guessing i should have waited longer to remove the oil filter to let more oil drain down into the pan or soak into the filter more?

I usually remove the pass inner fender liner break filter loose and let drain for a few minutes and then remove fully little to no mess

Wrap a trash bag or grocery bag around it. Letting sit helps a little too. Pacbrake also sells a filter relocation kit if you want to spend the $$.

A big zip loc bag works good too. In a tight Ill use a couple wally world bags inside each other, and that works just as good.

Like the others I loosen the filter and let it drain for several minutes before removing.

When you say you loosen the filter and let it drain, that is what i did but when is the first time oil has came out from top the filter.

Do you let drain out the top of the filter or are you refering to the drain plug?

I've changed my oil countless times and none has ever spilled out of the filter. I let the oil drain from the pan fully before I remove the filter.

plastic bag works the best, get the filter loose enough so u can spin it by hand but tight enough that the oil isnt draining out.... then put the bag under/ around it and then take it completely off so it drips into the bag

It seems to me, that if it sets long enough, no oil comes out of the filter. I can't say how much time is enough though ! I've had it be completely dry, and had it dripping down my arm too! LOL

Talking Bag It

Loosen the filter a little......slip a plastic bag up around it and carefully remove filter.....what spills goes into bag ....not on arm or floor......

you're supposed to change the oil while it's hot!
I take mine for a 10-15 min spin then in to Wallys World and let them change the oil...NO mess!! Just bring your fleetguard filter with you. it costs about $46.00... a real bargain if you ask me.

when your neighbor is at work pull into his yard. unscrew the filter and let it fall. kick it into the storm drain. slap another one on there. pour in new oil. check level. do donut in yard. call police and say some kids were jacking around in neighborhood. you are all done...

dont forget to fake sorrow for neighbor
