oil filters over stock oil filter??

Any better filters to use in place of stock oil filter.. I may put on the oilguard or amsoil single bypass filter system.. but was wondering about the stock filter.

the oilguard bypass filters are 1/3 the price of the amsoil bypass filters. one reason on using just a single bypass system is space and ofcourse $$$..

For stock filters the best is Fleetguard stratapore. Mopar filters are just standard Fleetguard filters rebadged, the stratapore is fleetguard best.

Fleetguard is made by cummins, so go with what is made for the engine.

Are you sure? That's not good news, as I just bought 2 Mopar filters a couple days ago. The stupid Cummins store isn't open on Saturdays which I just learned the hard way by driving 20 miles last weekend to learn first hand.

about 95% (+/-) of the people on here will tell you that the fleetguard filters are the only thing to use... wix are good filters, I personally use Baldwin's all around..

Its not just about filtration with filters.....

There are other things to consider.

Like: Cummins engines tested only with Fleetguards.
Fleetguards are designed around heavy duty use, not "lets just build a filter to fit it and hope it works".
That makes a big difference to me in my choice.

Who does wix test with again?

I am sure the wix are fine.
Does wix have the Stratopore option? Heavy case option? Increased volume porting?

Or just the "oh yeah that should work" engineering.

Hmm....

I'm a fleetguard fan as well, but I'd give consideration to the new Donaldson Endurance filters.

Donaldson is a world leader in filtration media, and if anyone could build a filter to exceed the performance of the FG units, THEY would be the ones to do it.

Oh, and Donaldson has a *tiny* bit of experience in the heavy truck market, you could say.

It just so happens, yes they do! They have a standard duty filter like the Mopar filter or standard Fleetguard number 51607 (drop the 5 for NAPA number) They have a heavy duty option "like" the stratopore. I don't think they can use that name as it is propietary to Cummins. The number is 57620XE. The service records on my truck indicate the previous owner used nothing but NAPA gold (1607), so my truck has 120 K on it with no ill effects. WIX is NOT Champion labs, who can be iffy(they make the Wal Mart Super Tech and also Mobil 1) or (God forbid) FRAM . They make a solid quality filter. Price doesn't mean much if you're going to ruin a $6000 engine, but I have been buying the base filter for $4.53 and the heavy dutys will cost $8.17 through Filter1. I am a NUT on oil and filter changes. When I found out how bad Frams are, I threw everyone I had (about a dozen) in the trash. If I thought that a WIX filter and dino oil wouldn't easily give me another 200K on my motor, I would never use either. JMHO

In all liklihood Wix is a re-badged Fleetguard or Donaldson or vice-versa. I bet only one of them actually makes both versions and the other two resell it as their own.

I vote for Fleetguard cause why not use the same company when they offer a good product?
