Here ya go:
Beta Ratio - A mathematical expression defining the number of particles of a given size upstream of a filter relative to the number of particles of the same size downstream of the filter. The Beta ratio (ßx) is an indicator of how well a filter controls particulate. It is the ratio of the number of particles (>xµm) entering the filter to the number (>xµm) that pass through. If one out of every two of the particles (>xµm) in the fluid pass through the filter, the filter's Beta ratio at xµm is "2." If only one out of every 200 of the particles (>xµm) pass through the filter, the Beta ratio at xµm is "200." Therefore, filters with a higher Beta ratio provide better particulate control and hence better system protection.

I forgot to take that statement out - as my next post I answered my own ?? about how WIX stated it..

ps: I would love some real number too.. it is just if you go looking for something you have to base you "buy" on something other then just guessing!
I know someone who bought a filter based on the brand and others saying it was good.. turns out it was a station pump filter and had a nominal rating of 15 or 20 mircons.. I was looking for a 8 to 10 micron absolute.. so it did matter to do some basic checking!

That's it, I'm switching to FRAM all around!

ps: ever wanted to cut open a filter - I just cut open a Fleet stratapore.. Don't ask me to do it again
Holy Smokes! If we're gonna get this serious, why are we all not running a bypass filter/oil cleaner? As posted on DTR in the past, the bypass filters supposedly stop everything to the sub-micron level. Even heard claims that they would stop the particles in cigarette smoke.

Just an FYI -- I was looking around on http://www.dodgeparts.com and they have a case of Mopar oil filters for $100.20 for the diesel trucks. I'm assuming these are rebadged fleetguards. Seems like a good price ($8.35/ea.).

I like the 3894. I think Fleetguard told me 73% @ 10 micron. I bought the Oilguard when they were 1/2 price and got a lifetime supply of filters - all for <$200. Frantz would be my next choice. Dad had them on his 50s trucks and they work great - and cheap! The cost of Ams rules them out, for me! If you want good AND cheap, use the fleetguard bypass base and spin-ons. Craig

Take it easy on the replies guys??? I have a Fram AirHog in my 06. Are they really that bad?? I looked at it compared to my AFE and it looks like it is higher build quality. If I get enough honest "it sucks" it will be gone tomorrow.
Please let me know.

Fram OIL filters are pretty bad. It is the unnamed poor quality filter Dodge and Cummins warn you about in their manuals. Dodge or Cummins will walk away from you if you have an oil related engine problem and they see the Fram filter (or filter made by Fram like Pennzoil etc.). I think the Tough Guard isn't too bad, but it is pricier than better filters.

That said, I removed a Fram fuel filter from a friend's '96, cut it open and it appeared to be very well made. I can't comment on the Air Hog, I don't know anything about them. In general, anything from Fram that is well made is overpriced.
Filter1 sells the WIX XE's for just over $8 and Scheid Diesel sells the Stratopores for about the same price. Why go anywhere else??

filtermania

First thing I did when I got my truck was to change all the filters, except air as was good. I get the wix for 8.89, lists for 17.51 at a parts store I am loyal to. I took a fram off! used a wix fuel filter too. like to participate in the LOCAL ecomomy if possible but if harm is going to be done to my diesel investment would change.
