oil change questions

I usually change my oil myself but had the "Miles of Freedom" deal so took the truck down for its 2nd oil change ~11,500 miles. Also did a couple of the reflashes. Tucson Dodge struggled mightily with the reflash - took them all day - they said they did them??

Came home and checked the oil and it was black! When I used to change the oil myself in my 98 and it stayed clear for a while. This oil change on my 2006 had 20 miles on it. I checked the filter and it is new and the drain plug had new stains around it so it looked like it had been drained - but why is my oil black so soon?

common on the 600 engines.. the extra fuel [3rd pulse] seems to be the main cause

Yeah... I have had customers call me and ask about that... That is just the way it is on those... Not nearly as bad as the old 6.5's ... Something Changed from 04 to 04.5... I don't know if it was programming or the cat but there is definately something different.

Rather see it in the oil then stuck to the inside of the eng. It is normal for 04.5 and up

I had my engine done at Tucson Dodge and no problems with that yet. But there sevice is really bad sometimes my last oil change took them 2 hours. My oils was almost black by the time i got home again after that oil change. Flasman have you tried Jim Click Dodge? I am thinking of trying them next time.

This doesn't have much to do with oil change but I had my truck inspected last week and by the time I got home my oil filter almost fell off. I called the dealer and they said that they don't even get near the filter. I was just under the truck the day before and no oil was leaking but after inspection is was pouring out. Lucky for me I decided to look under my truck after I got it inspected. Needless to say, I will never go back to that dealership again.

.....actually it doesn't have much to do with anything. Who's to say that the filter was leaking when the inspection was performed.

....on the "black oil". Yes, the 05 on up trucks have the new "skin staining" blend. I've lost count of how many times we've been yelled at because we didn't change the oil. Stuff comes out BLACK!! Kind of reminds me of the late 80's 6.2 Chevy.

Are you saying they changed the oil but didn't change the oil filter? What good does that do? That's stupid. I don't know if I would be madder at them for NOT changing the oil filter or for leaving it loose through carelessness. Either way, I wouldn't take it back there.

I just changed my oil today like I do every 5000 miles. I feel much better doing it myself since I know I will take the time and do it right.

J BODY,

The 04.5 trucks also turn the oil black as coal upon start up. Not just 05 on up trucks. Mine turns black almost instantly everytime.......as it did today.

This problem has been plaguing the 04.5 trucks and up. I had all the same questions, but i did a little research and found that there is a by-pass oil filter on the market that keeps engine oils clear as day even after 10k miles. The stock filter is only 10 micros and most soot particles and junk is between 3-5 microns. The bypass oil filter has a 1 micron filter on it which catches everything. I Forgot the manufacture but you can do a search on here and find it. they have a video on their web page that is truly awsome.

Not to sound mean but did you read my post? I said I had checked under the truck the day before I got it inspected, so why else would it be loose? Let's think.. The last person to work on it was at the dealership and that was only for inspection not oil change. Whatever they did I don't know but I won't go back regardless.
