I always figured the less the engine works with NO oil ciculation the better, and always filled the ilter before putting it back on.
I think thanging the oil every 2000 miles until 7500 is overkill, did my first at 3000 miles and every 5000 since, but that's just my 2¢..

Ive always been told that priming the oil filter (prefilling the oil filter w/about a quart of oil) on these "smaller" diesel engines was totally unnecessary and very risky. Unnecessary because of the smaller engine size and fast/strong oil pump? Very risky because any oil placed into the filter (along with unwanted debris) prior to startup would go directly to the engine. I.

Filling the oil filter is a requirment on the 2006 CTD and is this is even listed in the owners manual on page 375 if you want to check it and see for your self. It also states that Sever engine damage my occur. That alone is one good reason why to fill the oil filter before you install it. They also say to take care to not let dirt and other junk fall in to the filter while you fill it.
