Nv 5600 Oil

It's time to change my front and rear end fluid on my 03. I'm thinking of going with Mobil 1 syn for these. Should I change the fluid in the 6 speed trans, seems like I've read of others here doing this at 15,000 miles, but see no mention of this under scheduled maintenance? What can I use for this, other than dealer fluid?

The oil in the NV5600 is supposed to be a lifetime fill (yeah, right). I think its a great idea to change it when you're doing the diffs - thats what I did.

Lotsa folks like Redline MTL; I'm using Amsoil in mine this time, but may try MTL next time.

My shifting improved noticeably too. While I was under the truck, I did the xfer case as well.

I sleep well now, knowing that all fluid levels are correct.

I just changed my 5600 to synthetic - - had the dealer do it. Too early to give an opinion on any difference in the feel, shift or sound.

Bob, what oil did you use in your 5600? I replaced mine recently with the Pennzoil stuff that meets the DC specs and part number. The old oil looked pretty clean when I dumped it.

On another note, she goes in for a new ring and pinion on Monday. Hope that fixes that annoying whine for good.

Casey,
Yuk on the ring and pinion - - too bad. We didn't buy rebuilt trucks - - we bought "new". Hope that kills the problem. Now, if they could only find my rattle I would sure be a happy camper.

My service ticket says 4874459, lubricant 1081033. Hopefully that is the number of what they put in. He was walking out of the parts room with 5 quarts of dino oil when I stopped him. He went back and got the synthetic. I would feel that the ticket truly represents what was charged against the job.

Getting anxious to head your way - - sure wish we coming close enough. Good luck on the "operation."
Bob

I used the Quacker State Syncromesh Fluid, The spec sheet is identical to the Penzoil spec sheet and I am told that it is also the same oil. It says that it is recomended to replace Chrysler part # 4874464. I changed it at 60000Kilometers (37500miles) I removed the left side PTO cover and cleaned some fuzz of of the magnet but like Casey said the oil was clean. I have had it in there for about 2000 Kilometers and I never noticed any difference. I also changed oil in the transfer case ( Mopar +4ATF and in both Diffs at this time, I use Mobil 1 Synthetic GL5, I plan on changing the front diff oil every second oil change for the rear.

I finally put a few miles on mine today since they worked on the tranny. Been running with AC on (hot down here) so didn't listen close until tonight. The tranny is definitely quieter - - not such a harsh rattle. Now, whether that is the synthetic or it is the new bearing I cannot tell. Maybe a little of both, but it definitely is more quiet. Still has a little rattle, but not bad. Thank goodness.

So is there a number or weight for the oil.
I talked to someone at Royal Purple and was told to use the Syncromax in the 6 speed and transfer case.
This is listed as an auto tranny oil as well, can that be correct?
Can you tell them the factory DC number and they cross ref. it?
