Not impressed

So, there were some funny vibrations coming from underneath my 04 diesel 4x4, figured probably something in the driveshaft, i was right looked at the rear u-joint and it was completly worn through. Thats all fine and dandy, the guy i bought it off of used it primarily to tow his fifth wheel and the truck had 70k's at the time. Then the mechanic finds something i sure didn't see, nice big crack in the back of my transmission just above the pan, leaking atf slowly. Unfortunatly i've been off work for 5 weeks and dont exactly have the time or money to take it into warrenty.

This is the second third gen i've owned my last one was an 05, and this 04 will be the last one i ever buy...........seen as how the 05 had to go in for warrenty work just after 30k's

Not impressed, never had this many troubles with a vehicle in my life, time to buy a first gen

Just ventin though, seems like i always have troubles with dodges, even though i love the cummins

I can see you being up set to not have the $$ to fix your truck, I’ve been there my self, but fail to see why Dodge it to blame for it. As I understand from what you wrote that the pervious owner drove it towing his fifth wheel with a bad U joint and that in turn caused a crack in the trans and fluid to leak. You then say you did not find this problem when you bought it but your mechanic did, so again why is it Dodges fault? Do you not think this same problem could happen to a Ford or GMC/Chevy? My self I think it could.

I’m very sorry to hear you have a problem and no $$ to fix it but why put the blame on Dodge? It was the pervious owner who drove it with a known problem that made something break. Why do you feel a first generation truck will be any better as many will have more miles on them then what you own right now?

personally i feel that the older trucks were built a lot more stout, i've seen them put through a lot of abuse. I'm pretty much just venting, it seems i have no luck with newer trucks. Not that its dodges fault, but i have delt with dealerships before with warranty work and its not exactly a fun process. Usually argueing with them about whether its your fault or not, which it is not, i've practically babied this truck.

I just wish 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks these days would actually handle what they're made to do....

Yeah it's not Dodge's fault he drove it with a bad joint and cracked the tranny.
What warranty do you have? 3/36 is way over.

i have the gold coverage, er whatever its called, im pretty sure its 5 years 120 000 kms

and the funny thing is i bought it from a dealer like it is, didn't have the bad vibration tell maybe 1000k's after i bought it, the guy before my probably traded it in and they sold it as is, so they could make an extra buck

Borrow the money to get the warranty work done. I know that's easy for me to say, but it's cheaper than fixing it later yourself or trading it and taking a loss.

Sorry it had to hapen in the first place.

When you get the money go get it fixed and go buy a 1st gen or maybe a ford or chevy, they are lot more reliable and will never give you any problems

If there was a crack in the tranny and a u-joint that was worn all the way through, that is plain and utter neglect. Cracks in trannies aren't something that just happens overnight unless you offroad it and come down hard on say a rock or something. And for the u-joint to be "completely worn through" points me in the direction of neglect also...had you paid closer attention to the vehicle when you bought it, you probably WOULDN'T have bought it until he fixed it and none of us would be having this conversation. Did you even test drive it? If not, that's on you If you DID and then found these problems, that's on you too for neglecting your vehicle. I've never heard of ANYBODY just going to bed one night and waking up with a "nice big crack in their tranny"...didn't you see any red oil puddles under your vehicle EVER before getting in it? I know I look for those things EVERY time I get in my truck and i wouldn't drive it if I saw it. Totally avoidable situation here, in my opinion...absolutely no reason to hate a truck, or even a generation of trucks.
