Talking is this normal?

when i got in the truck this morning it took forever for it to heat up. is this normal? i was in austin so it wasn't THAT cold, but it was cold. just wondering if something is wrong or if its just normal. Thanks!

Yes, it's normal. You can cut down on the warm up time by plugging in the block heater about three hours ahead of time. The use of a timer would work well in this case.

When I drive to work 9 miles, with 6 miles on the freeway, my truck is just getting close to operating temp when I arrive. There is a lot of iron in these Cummins to heat up and it takes a while.

Gotta heat alot of oil/coolant/cast iron to heat up. Could look at a Exhaust brake/high idle to help cut that warm up time down....

-40*C it takes me about 30 KM to heat up to operating temp. and it never will reach operating temp if Im just driving around in town. As well my engine could be at operating temp and by the time a red light cycles to green my engine has cooled off about half way to cold again. The Ford Powerjoke Im driving now as a rental does the same thing. The ford is sure a pig on fuel though.

My PrxB Exhaust brake does wonders for improving cab heat.
