is this normal ?

when i turn the key to start the lift pump runs for 25 seconds every time , and i think it should only run for 2 seconds and swicth off , if i turn the engine over for half a second and back to pre start the lift pump does not run , it seems as though this is the reverse of what it should be, is this correct ? its on an 03 qc 24 v thanks in advance

Mine did the same when it was stock. It would run for 45 sec or so. As long as it shuts off after a minute, you're good.

If your stock lift pump clatters and is becoming louder, change the lift pump out ASAP.
I believe they should be changed out around 100K, no matter what.
The longer it takes to build the pressure up, the less effecient it is becoming.

Thanks for replying , i am going to get a fuel pressure gauge fitted so i can keep an eye on it , i still can't understand why it needs to pump fuel for 25 seconds evrytime , even if i start up and run for say 5 seconds and switch off it goes through the pump cycle again

If it has had any computer updates or even had a smarty on it with the latest chrysler software, it will run longer. Mine ran much longer after I started using the smarty.

Guys, I'm going to tell you once again, if it is clattering for long periods of time, check your fuel pressure. Replacing the lift pump isn't cheap, but waiting too long can really cause problems.
I just changed my fuel filter - the third one since my 06 was new and only 11,000 miles on it. My mpg jumped almost .5 mpg.
A less efficient lift pump can definitely affect your fuel economy, not to mention what it can do to the injection pump.
