New worry

I think my engine may be making oil. I checked it today, and it is an inch over full. I'm fairly sure I checked it when it had a couple hundred miles on it and it was fine. Now around 1500 miles. Could be not burning right yet due to not broke in yet. May be why I sometimes smell raw fuel. So, I will change it tomarrow and do an oil sample. Worry worry.

Re:New worry

If you never changed or added oil, then it's not a good sign. I'd be concerned as well. Actually you should, in my opinion, take it back to the *******. With only 1500 miles and up an inch over full on the stick, let them check it out. If you have fuel in the oil, it will thin it and may be doing serious harm to the engine. If it was coolant you would see the bubbles on the stick and it would have froth of the cap.

Re:New worry

I'd take it directly to the dealer; do not pass go, do not collect $200.

If you ever eventually get to the dealer, and when you tell them the level rose one-half inch within a thousand miles, and continue to tell them that you drained it all and filled it correctly to assist in trouble shooting, they're gonna say, "uh-huh - bring it in when their's something wrong".

Are they open on Columbus Day? If they were and it was my truck, thats where I'd be.

I'm sure you don't have to be told, but go read the horror stories at the dieselstop.com. 6.0 powertrain groups.

Re:New worry

Maybe this is silly, but did you check your oil on level ground both times? I can't see how the level would rise.

Re:New worry

The Fords were having trouble with leaking injectors causing the oil in the pan to become contaminated with diesel fuel.

Could be the same thing here, I hope not. :-

I'd get it checked pronto.
And get a sample of the oil sent away for analysis.

Fuel or coolant getting into the oil will cause the oil level to rise. A bad o-ring or gasket somewhere could be leaking.

Was real common on the 6.0 Powerstroke for a while.

Re:New worry

I'm taking an oil sample before going to the dealer. I'm tired of the excuses and that is normal stuff. This way if the sample comes back with fuel I have evidence. I get a certain amount of free oil samples at my shop anyhow.

Re:New worry

I have only read one other story of fuel in oil from a Cummins owner. He indeed had some bad injector seals. Get that truck to the dealer ASAP but your fuel in oil pollution ratio sounds low enough unless you have been towing heavy loads in the desert heat your engine should be fine.

Take a peek at this thread.

We have had a couple cases of bad injectors - - nothing like the others have had, but it has happened.
