Question should i worry

Well i was putting on one of those pretty fuel doors and my 3 y/o son threw a wrench in my fuel tank, had it off to get easy acess to the fuel door bolts. Will it kill the internals of the tank? fuel pump? It was a craftmans wrench.

How about trying a magnet? I don't know how you would get it down in the tank.

try a horse shoe magnet. Tie about 6 ft. of heavy fishing line on it.
Now go fishing! you'll it get.

I doubt it would be a problem. You can retreive it when you have to change the fuel pump.

I think the fuel will keep it from rusting. If you are like me thought, the biggest issue is the unknown.

If it was me I would run the truck until it was pretty empty then drop the tank, open it up and get my wrench back....Oh I didn't read all the way the wrench is a craftsman not Snap On, its not worthy of getting back...But seriously I would drop the tank and get it out, who knows what might happen with the wrench in there.

Don't worry about it , I have had a lot of fuel tanks off and have found all kinds of stuff in them and most of them were bottom feeds tanks . It will not hurt a thing and if you do ever drop the tank it will look like new when you get it back . I wouldn't let him empty the tool box in thier but one wrench won't hurt a thing and not worth the work to drop tank . I have taken tractor tanks off with wrenches bolts sticks and any thing you can think of in them . If the tractor fuel gauge is inop guys will stick anything in thier to check the level and end up dropping it . Our trucks feed from the top and have a small sump you will have no problem unless you need that size wrench . With the in tank fuel pump I don't think a magnet would be a good idea you might do more damage .

Craftsman?

You probably will be okay unless your vehicle is subjected to a lot of bouncing about. There is a plastic and mesh fuel screen (at least on my 03) that may get knocked off the bottom of the fuel pickup and then if there is any big gunk it could get sucked into the fuel pump causing problems. All the problems of the Dodge lift pumps throwing a preverbal "monkey wrench" into the tank may end up costing you in the long run.

Put a wrench in the bottom of a empty tank and bounce it around it will move a lot but put a bunch of diesel around it and you are going to need to hit a brick wall to make it move . Do what you want but it will not hurt a thing and the lift pump problems on the in tank LP are very rare do a search .

You must have gotten the replacement done at the dealer to have the in tank pump then?

If your lift pump is still in the stock location on the filter housing by the engine then I wouldn't worry about the wrench because you will likely be putting a new lift pump on sooner than later. Once you do you could take the time to replace the pickup tube to a larger one and retrieve your wrench while you have the tank dropped. Maybe the vent kit as well. I wouldn't go through the hassle of dropping the tank without at least doing some good mods while you have it apart.

Don't forget also that you have the float for the fuel gauge in there too..

Its nothing more than a thin metal/wire arm with a plastic float on the end.

Its not something I would worry about today or tomorrow....but I'd get it out before too long.
