I was talking to my dealer yesterday, and had him search for any recalls on my truck. He found only one, received yesterday, for replacement of the rollover valve on all 06 Cummins.

From what he said, if this valve fails, it will let water into the fuel system.

Anyone else know anything about this?

 

I just found out yesterday during my oil change. Must be pretty new.

 

Just did a VIN check on the Dodge site and it shows nothing.....is that site even worth checking?

The is a well known problem with all trucks back to '03. If you do a search on " Fuel tank vent mod" you will find more information. Here is the problem. Our trucks use the same fuel tank as the gassers. On the top in the front and in the top rear we have 2 open vents that would of gone to the evap canister for a gasser. What will happen is water may accumullate in the recessess and when it gets high enough be drawn into the tank. So, what people have been doing on here is to extend them with 1/4 inch fuel line and put a cheap fuel filter on the other end. Some people tie them up high and so on. I have mine above the tank with the filter opening pointing down and in towards the middle of the truck.

No doubt. Either get it done or you can do the mod for about $10 to $15 yourself.

Need to see the TSB first to make sure it is what we have all been doing.

Yes you can tie them together with a T- fitting and I would suggest a cheap fuel filter on the end.

 

but they have to vent is this right? they cant be sealed right?

 

I may be wrong, but I think this only applies to trucks that have the 8 foot bed and the larger tanks.

 

I have a 8ft bed and I have the vents do they have to vent or can they be sealed?

I don't think this has anything to do with the fuel tank vents.

1. This is a recall, not a TSB. They are two very different things.
2. The dealer referenced a rollover valve having to be replaced.

Anyway, if it is indeed a recall, then I, along with other owner's who are affected, should be getting a letter in the mail, this is the law.

 

sorry but roll over valve in the tank (maybe not our trucks) acts as vent and to shut off fuel if the truck or car turns up side down. this is the reason for my post if you do the vent mod and there just vents and no ball float to shut off fuel off when the tank is full it will leak fuel. That is the reason for my Q. I am not trying to change the subject just want a A. so do they get pluged or do they have to vent?

 

if you dont have any problems with water in your fuel the only thing you have to do is take 2 6 inch pieces of 5/16th fuel line and push them on the valves. then you are done. that is all the dealership is going to do.
