Need some help with a noise

Hello and let me say what a cool forum. Its awesome to have a place to get some things answered.

The truck. 2005 quad cab 2500 6spd 4x4 5.9 engine.

I am posting this for a kid who owns the truck as he always looks to me for repair or help.

Truck has been running great. Today when he pushed the clutch in he got a terrible noise. Like a metal rattle but ...this was beyond loud. At the same time he had a problem with his gauges and lights. None of them would work. If he wasnt pushing the clutch in then there was no noise. He turned the truck off for a while and when ha restarted it the noise was gone and the gauges and radio worked.

I am thinking the electrical issue here was just a coincidence with the mechanical noise. Having said that stranger things have happened. Could they be tied to one another in some crazy way?

Moreover the important part being the noise...what on earth could that have been? Unfortunatley I didnt get to hear the noise but someone who did made mention of a throw out bearing area but the noise level was just off the charts.

The noise is not there now but since it showed up there is concern of it now.

As most of you would know that a bad (fill in the blank) is bad all the time. So could this be something phantom and freakish. We have all had something like that at some point with vehicles.

Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

If it is a later 05' truck with the all metal intercooler (CAC) he is going to have a G56 tranny. The clutch with that tranny has a dual mass flywheel which is know to have issues over time and will make loud noise when it about ready to go. Tell him to start saving up for a SouthBend replace with a new flywheel so he can do away with that quality piece of junk. Gauges and electrical issue may have been something else.

I understand what you are saying here but if the fly wheel was going bad shouldnt it be making a noise constantly.? Even a faint one? This noise has 100 percent vanished. It seems this was making all kinds of hell when the clutch was pushed in and then when shut off and re-started the noise has left and the truck sounds like it has been....which is to say...no banging.

Do a search on DMF or dual mass flywheels on here or Clutch issues. Lots of reading and failures.
