Need help!!!!!

Hi am recently new to the Dodge Cummins. I just purchased a 03 2500 with a 05 Cummins 6spd Manuel with 198314 miles. So I guess I put bad fuel in it and I had to drop the tank. Well the strainer on the sending unit was really bad couldn't see through it so I cleaned it with some stuff since I couldn't find a replacement. Well my trucks starts losing power and acting up. Dies on me I start it up drive again and dies again. I replaced filter on side of block like I said cleaned the strainer on pump, cleaned out the tank and cleaned out the lines. I primed the fuel after i put fresh fuel back in tank. I can start it and idle for a bit then die. Please help. It's blows out black and white smoke but only when I first start it. Thanks for any info in advance.

I cringe when I hear someone "primed" the fuel without saying how they did it. The old school way was to crack open a line and crank till there was fuel. These fuel systems, however, make such a high pressure that if your finger got in the way it can actually be injected with fuel which could lead to infection and death. I hope you used the key process.

If your CP3 was starved of fuel for any length of time, it may be damaged and need replacement. What is the condition of your lift pump? Do you have a fuel pressure gauge?

I enjoyed my '03 6sp manual for the almost 300k miles I had it. Loved the forest green color too.
Back to morning brew . . .

I'm sorry I filled the fuel filter housing and put filter in it tightned the top then I turned key on let pump run til cut off 5 times. Starts then dies min after. The strainer on pump was so bad couldn't see through it. So I used some dawn soap and a old toothbrush. Waited a day before putting it all back. I will check that part though. Thank you
