My jaw hit the ground today when I opened the hood

I opened the hood today and found the air cleaner off. I have an airaid system and it looks like someone tried to rip it off rubber is torn by the clamp and it was just laying in the bottom of the box. I just cleaned it a couple of weeks ago and I know the clamp was tight, I had to loosen the clamp to put it back on, it just doesnt make sense how it came off. Enough babbling what I am worried about is how much dust can the engine injest without damage, you could see your finger marks on the edge of the tube in the dust, was not very thick but there was some there. I was just under the hood a few days ago and everything was fine. I dont think it was off long.

If your airraid filter is anything like the one I had on my old Powerstroke it probably filters just as well laying in the bottom of the airbox as it does attached!

The same thing happened to me. You have to make sure that the filter is over the little burr/notch and clamped over it to hold the filter in place.

Change the oil ASAP. and take a oil sample. You will probally want to take the intake apart as well and clean it out as well.

I guess that would be one advantage to a DurtyMAX or the PosD ...no room under the hood for the Jack Rabbit!

I bought my truck from an airforce fighter jock from alaska.....(23k on it at the time)

He drove it from alaska to kansas, and when I was checking out everything under the hood, I found that the air filter had 1/2inch (yes 1/2 inch) of crud built up on the bottom of it....

The engine was still running fine, and the funny thing is, the indicator wasnt even indicating that the filter needed to be changed....

I have never ever ever EVER seen a filter that dirty.....

What do you expect from a fighter jock, they're the reason why us jet mechanics are gainfully employed!!
