baffles

I'm just an old country boy but I'll offer this comparison concerning a baffled muffler flowing better than a smooth pipe.

If you have ever sat on the bank of a flood stage river or creek and watched the current you'll notice it flows faster in mid-stream. The friction of the smooth banks slow the flow along the edge. That's why a rising river always has all the trash flowing in the middle of the stream, it's faster there.

I contend a baffled muffler would push the flow toward the center of the muffler where there is less resistance and increase flowrates there. So with that theory in mind, the muffler case is larger than a straight pipe. The baffles inside move the flow to the center where there is almost no resistance. This increases flow because it eliminates sidewall resistance which would slow flow.

On the other hand a smooth pipe is constantly fighting the resistance of the flow along the walls of the pipe.

How's that sound??

I bought my 05 with a 5 inch turbo back system and an open straight muffler decoy. It looked like a muffler but after I got it off I could see nothing inside to muffle noise. I thought it was great but my wife complained so much I put the OEM 4 inch pipe and muffler on. If anyone wants to buy a good 5inch system I still have it.

Neither sir, its below the big mufflers on the page where it says "Twister". The muffler I have is only 17" long and is considered a muffler/resonator. It has lost me no power but gained me a much better sound with the stacks.

I have a 06 first put a (flow pro twister)then pulled my toy hauler up in the mountains holy crap did that hurt had to put my german sheperd in the cab for fear of blowing his eardrums out.Took that POS of asap, then put a really nice polished stainless magna flow 30 incher and again went out camping in the mountains and it was not much better then the flo pro again took it off and finally put in a 52 inch Donaldson, well I am finally happy with this set up.Botom line is when I go camping its always in the mountains and pulling vail pass, east bound to the tunnel it puls hard and was just way to loud very stressfull in the cab.
