Motor dropping oil!

I was on the highway and someone next to me said that I was loosing oil. I pulled over and looked under the hood and saw nothing. Looked at guages and just then the check guages light came on and oil pressure dropped to 0. Shut her down and saw that the whole under side of the truck had oil on it. Seems that the oil is coming out of the line that comes from the side of the valve cover. It is being towed to the dealer as I type and they think they can have a tech look at it on Monday. Any ideas on whats going on.

I am willing to bet the farm you had a injector go out and fill the crankcase with fuel. hope you took the xzt off before you ran it to the dealer.

As above, Probably a failed injector. It will fill the crankcase with fuel rapidly, and spew it out the overflow tube coating everything under the truck and for long term will wash out bearings and possibly damage the turbo bearings due to lack of lube. The oil thinned out so much that at idle it showed no oil pressure which was the check gauges error you got. You will know itf it was an injector as when mine went out used 8 gallons fuel to travel the 20 miles to the dealer.

As above make sure you removed the XZT box or they may cancel your warranty rather quickly. It is a pressure box and they can claim it raised pressure enough to cause the failure rather right or wrong. If you mean you have the Quad Commander with no tuner box don't worry about it and if they argue about it tell them it's only gauges.

Great info thanks, what are the chances of getting the dealer to remove all that oil from the under side of the truck?

Just think of it as rust proofing

it should be covered under your warranty just keep asking the manager everytime you see him.

Says no warranty because the commander could have controlled a chip. New dc policy.

cromulius:

Sorry to hear about your truck!

As far as that oil on the undercarriage, I blew the high pressure tranny line on my 1996 Dodge CTD about a month ago and was able to get all that fluid off by using a spray bottle with "Purple Power Degreaser" I bought at NAPA.
I squirted the Purple Power all over the undercarriage, let it sit for about 15 minutes or so and then hosed it off with my pressure washer. Came out real good with no residue or film an anything.

I agree with Brett, make him show you this "policy". Be very persistent, hopefully they will change their mind. And who cares who blasts you for having an XZT, in my opinion, these trucks are tuned way back for emissions anyways, all we're doing is using technology to get around that, these trucks should be built to handle some power, and if they break, the dealer should fix them. Just my .02, I'll probably get flamed for that but who cares!

AS above ask him to show you....tell him you only have electronic gagues, nothing else, and ask him to prove you have a tuner, be adamant about it and demand that district manager get involved or have it taken to another dealer as if you pay for this the injectors are 600-800 each from Dodge + the highly inflated labor rate etc. There is no way your modifications should have caused any damage ....and as far as clean up my 1st one truck was cleaned up well but day after I got truck back I had to pay to have another oil change done due to diluted oil not changed correctly and on second lost injector got truck back as bad as it was when I took it in,, Quarter wash in Corbin Ky had quite a bit of oil on the floor before I left Corbin and truck was a lot cleaner.....

They are not budging on the issue and the district manager won't call me which I think is pretty weak. They expect me to just pay the bill and then try to get reimbursed. I have another key and am thinking I should just go get my truck. I doubt they will actually try to put their hands on me or lock the gate real quick to stop me if they see whats going on.

I would find another dealer, even if you have to drive a little ways.
