manually lock the clutch fan

My truck keeps cutting the wires , I have heard that you can smash the fan clutch with a hammer (where the wires are ) and it will lock up the clutch fan to run all the time . Is there any other way to do this ?? I must have the fan running on high because I tow .

Thanks

The cause is , it sucks the wires into the fan and chop them off

Then they aren't mounted correctly. Might be easier to fix the problem than try to find a way around it.

there should be a steel "trough" that the wires are attached to that run between the fan and the radiator. it keeps the wires out of the fan. make sure that is secured correctly. like said above, cheaper to fix the problem than bypass it and have something else to worry about while driving

lockup all the time?

I know you think that you need the fan on all the time because you feel more knowledgable than all the computers and sensors are as to when the fan should come on but honestly, I tow also and only when I'm really heavy, in summer or a good warm day and pulling a 6% or equi grade does my fan ever come on and then only for a short time. If you think towing is the reason for the fan being on I hope you aren't ALWAYS going up a steep grade fully loaded and never reach the top.

mine was chopped when I bought it , I paid 200.00 for a new one , I thought I had fixed the problem because I zip tied it through the radiator but for some reason it chopped them again . It was about 75 degrees and I was having to go up and over several hills back to back at about 25 mph when it almost run hot with me . I was towing 12,500 5th wheel . I stopped once I got in the camp ground , and it had chopped the brand new wires .

Can someone post some factory pictures of theirs so I can see what it looked like from the factory ??

Dad bought a 67 ford car that always overheated and ford did a bunch of warranty work - t stat, radiator and water pump, new heads, overhauled the trans and no help. Then, dad drilled 2 of the holes that hold the blade to the clutch all the way thru and put in longer bolts to lock the clutch and it never overheated again. A few years later we tried that on one of his farm trucks that was overheating and I headed out to haul some livestock and I only made it to the end of the driveway and it threw a blade off the fan, thru the steel shroud and it stuck in the floorboard under my feet. Sometimes it's not a good idea to lock up the clutch. The clutch is also a cushion. Craig
