Mag-Hytec trans pan?

I stopped in at 4 wheel parts today and with their 15% off I got a Mag-Hytec trans pan for a good price. I was in a mood to buy something for the truck on payday In looking at their book it showed the 727-D pan added 1.5 qts of fluid, but reading on here it doesn't add fluid. Is this model worth having for the convienience of the drain plug and the additional strength, or should I return it and get the DD model or something else entirely or should I just add a $10 drain plug to the factory pan? If I do the factory pan with a plug I could use the money for some gauges.

Does anyone have a pic of the DD pan mounted? Adding 2" to the factory pan looks like it would make it about as low as the lowest point on the oil pan. I don't plan on 4 wheelin this truck, but it would certainly suck to ram a tree stump into the trans pan.

Thanks,

Mitch

Hey BroncoAZ, I see we have the same trucks, my bronco is a little older though '79. I have been debating the Mag Hytec vs. bolt drain mod also. Both are pretty practical. I guess is has to do with how much money I have to spend come tranny flush time. I am leaning toward the Double Deep Mag-Hytec myself and do quite a bet of offroad. I don't thing the depth is too much of an issue. Manufacture claims is is still at or above the crossmember I believe. It should be sufficient unless you are getting real extreem.

The extra capacity is suppose to really keep things cool and help longevity. Gauges were first for me, I still need to install, Im sort of waiting for warrenty to expire, although this may not be necessary...depending on dealer. Gauges will help longevity too and probably more important if you plan to run a tuner. Do you attend DTR Chaper #20 events?

I haven't attended any #20 events yet, I've only had my truck for 2 months. I post over on www.fullsizebronco.com too.

The DD pan sits up above the bottom of the frame a few inchs so clearance shouldn't be an issue for you. If you hit it on something you got bigger problems to worry about. One thing I like about mine is the port for the trans temp sender when you do put gauges in. And if nothing else it looks cool under the truck.

I went back and got the DD pan today. They still gave me the 15% off deal. I'm not too worried about clearance on this truck, but it's good to know it's still tucked up there a bit. I can't imagine that the extra capacity isn't good for the trans.
