mag-hytec trans pan,few ???
mag-hytec trans pan,few ???
So I got the deep mag-hytec pan for the tranny, before I drop the factory pan Id like to ask the pros a few questions.
1) there are no instructions included for the filter extention, also no gaskets, will it not suck air?whats the best way to install this?
2) can I just drop the factory oil and replace it with valvoline full synthetic atf+4? is there a better oil?is the factory oil synthetic?
3)there is just a fiber type gasket for the pan (no "o" ring for our trucks) with no sealant,is this to go on dry or should I use silicone or hi tach spray or something?
4)is there a preferred filter to use or should I go with a oem?
thanx so much guys.

I just put in a new OEM filter. The pickup does not have to be lowered. The oil level will be the same as before but more oil will be in the pan. There are lots of opinions on oil. I went with the OEM stuff but when I had my VB and TC done the tranny shop put in 30 weight hydraulic oil. That's all they run in Dodges. He's been doing Dodges for 40 years and is well known, so who am I to second guess him?

I'm sure someone will chime in with more info than me but i'll try.
1) I don't recall a gasket with mine either, I think there was one for the filter though (don't quote me)
2) Not sure about Valvoline, but the was told the oe is a semi-or full synthetic, but there is nothing on the bottle suggesting either.
3) The original pan gasket is plastic with a rubber ring on both sides that is reusable. I still bought a new one anyway - peace of mind.
4) Not sure if one is better than the next, just went oe here.
Like I said someone else will probably help more but this might give you a start.

With the double deep you get the extension for the p/up-no gasket needed.I prefer using the early style filter 1/2 the price and at least as much if not more filtering. The factory gasket is reusable and nicer to use.........no stuck gaskets to clean off.
