Lift Pump

Can you guys give me the basic symtoms of a failed lift pump?

Running down the interstate with my trailer and the cruise set at 65mph,,,,,,,,light comes on, truck shuts down and no restart at all.

Never shimmied, shook, stuttered or stumbled. Just dead.

Also it is leaking fuel around the filter area.

Any help before I tow it to the ***********?

Could be lift pump....need to know what codes turned the light on#1 ( turn key from off to on, 3 times not cranking) then read codes in the odometer screen. Also. need to know where the fuel is leaking. What year truck? Filter mounted pump? Can you hear the pump run? Could be as simple as a line broken or rubber hose. Need more info.......

Where exactly is it leaking fuel from? Maybe air entering the fuel system

It is leaking down around the fuel filter area.

Sent a couple of my heavy equip. guys out to look at it and they think it is a broken injector line.

Just seemed really wierd that it went from running fine to totally dead without any indication.

make sure to check the little blue connector clips they come loose sometimes and cause fuel leakage and air in the system. if it is a broken injector line you would have it shooting out the pressure in those lines is from 8k-24k psi and that would be leaking on the top of the engine near the common rail. tighten the injector line and see if one of the fittings just came loose.

also were there any codes???

Broken injector line was just what I was thinking too. The rail and lines are all holding the rail pressure until the injector opens. If you break a line, you lose rail pressure. Not too unheard of either .
