Lift pump
I still have original lift pump at 80,000 miles. Truck still runs great.I asked a service manager at a local dealership about getting it checked to make sure pressures are correct while it is still under warranty. He said there is no way of checking it. Basically they either work or they don't. And that when they do go bad they take the injector pump with them. Is he full of crap ??
Ya, he's full of crap. I believe they have a test to check the volume flow. Do you know if yours is on the filter housing? If it is, I wouldn't let them touch it. They'll stick it in the tank and when its time to upgrade, itll be a huge pain to install a better unit. Mount a walbro to the frame rail and be done with it.
Yeah, I think he's full of it. I just had my OEM lift pump checked by a local independent shop. It's putting out 7-9 pounds of pressure at idle. My understanding is 10# is the recommended minimum. so mine may be getting ready to fail. I don't have any engine modifications and don't plan any. After some discussion on another thread, I've decided I'm going to tackle this issue myself and replace it with an in-tank pump. Looks like I can get the pump for under $280 and there's no need for a re-flash.
Yours is filter canister mounted. As said above, don't let the dealer replace it or you'll end up with the in-tank pump. I had the same issue, 4-5 psi and the dealer telling me it was normal, so I replaced it with a Glacier 392 kit and couldn't be happier. I get a constant 20-22 psi.
