just picked up a 06 dodge megacab 6spd ?
well i just took delivery of an 06 megacab,2wd,3:73 6spd today. Now i am used to my 95 12v getting pretty good mileage on the hwy and what not even while towing.
My question is what can i do to the 06 to improve mileage/power. on my 12v i had the 4" turbo back and that was an auto
any help is appreciated as i am not too knowledgeable on these newer ones and i mainly mess around with the vw tdi's

Congrats on the new truck. Once you get it broke in you should see pretty good milage. Mine's a 4x4 so it is a little less than your 2wd in the mileage dept. Your truck comes with a 4" exhaust so that's one expense you will not have unless you are into stainless. If you tow a lot, you might want to consider the muffler elimination test pipe, it will bring your EGT's down. It leaves in the cat, which has very little restrictions, and also leaves in the resonator, which cuts down on drone.
I installed an aftermarket air filter, AMSOIL nano, and did a mod to the stock air box to get more air in, let's it breathe better. I also went to bigger tires to get the rpm's down into the sweet spot for towing and fuel economy.
All in all, you will be very pleased with the new truck, very powerful, certainly does the job when it has come to everything I have thrown at it. I really like the additional cab space, you will too I'm sure.
Enjoy.

Advocate of getting the ban button used on him...
How many miles on the truck? Just keep in mind these engines will get better as miles are put on them. A better intake seems to help. Buying a Smarty ( one of my next things I think I will do) seems to get pretty good gains if you keep your foot out of it!! Check tire pressure and even go up in size a small amout will help.
Hope this helps. Nothing I know of or heard of will get you real big gains in one simple step. Several smaller things seem to be what does it.

My 06 4x4 Mega gets 21ish on the highway empty but that is running between 65 - 70. Still getting a little better but for day to day you have to stay out of the boost to keep the MPG up there.

only 10k miles on it so i hear once i hit 30k i should get around 21-22 but that was from a guy with 4x4 so i am hoping a little better.
thanks for all the pointers.
does anyone market the muffler delete pipes? i do a lot of hauling but just wrecked vw's mainly. I go all over the country for them and am heading to VA this week i believe.
Also what should i run for oil synthetic, also what filter

Muffler Delete - Look at RPM Outlet for the delete pipe ~$50. I hear Geno's Garage has them too but I got mine from RPM and was really happy with it.
