Just picked it up!

Picked up my new 2500, SRW, std cab, HO, 48RE on Wednesday. It's wonderful! Took seven weeks to the day from order to pickup. No EGR. No converter before the muffler (as I've seen on some). Very powerful, quiet. Eeee, haw.
I can't get over how far Dodge has come. This truck is very modern and built so well. I had a '93 Cummins for about six years and loved it, but this is something else.
Excellent dealer too. They have about 300 (!) trucks in stock.

Re:Just picked it up!

Congrats on your new truck but like the other's I'm wondering how you got a HO in California. Can you post the 3 digit engine code?

Re:Just picked it up!

There are at least a couple of ways to get an HO into California. The way I did it was to establish a business in Nevada (this can be simpler than it sounds). Then buy it there and register it there as a business. That allows cheap registration and tax writeoffs. When you bring it into California you're just driving a company vehicle, no problem having a California drivers license and a Nevada plate. Also, as a business, you get an additional $300. off the "fleet" price as well as the $2,500. incentive Dodge is currently offering. Total incentive $2,800.
There is another way that may be easier for those that don't need the tax writeoff. It's based on bringing "used" vehicles into the state.

Hello Wetspirt,
The truck sounds great. I live in northern Calif. and in the process of getting ready to order a 2004 Dodge truck. Do you mind sharing who your dealer was. I refuse to deal with our local dealer! Thanks and good luck.

Re:Just picked it up!

The dealer I got mine from is Carson Dodge in Carson City. Very good dealer. No hassles, very good with service.
My 48RE had a problem right from the factory. It had a broken plug inside on the governor transducer and was shifting very erratically. They had it fixed in an hour! New governor, transducer and plug.
I love the truck! Now it's time for some new shocks. The factory ones, in my opinion, are very poor.
It got 21.7 miles per gallon on the first tank coming over the mountain. Been getting between 18 and 19.7 on each tank since. Love it.

Re:Just picked it up!

You must be driving very slowly, or have interesting calculations. My 04 48RE/HO gets 14.5-15.5 tooling around the city and 15.8-16.8 on the highway so far, with just 4000 miles. Whats up with that mileage, seems awfully high~!

Re:Just picked it up!

Lightman,

I've getting an over all average of 17.1mpg, hand calculated. I'd say 80 % highway and rest city and I've got 4.10 gears. Well, I do have the 315/70/17s but I also have under 2000 miles. When I had the stock tires on it, I was getting an average of 18 mpg.

Re:Just picked it up!

Yup, it's a 4x4. And your right, I proberbly need to get on the pedal more, but so far, I havn't needed to. I can merge into traffic and maintain speed without giving it much fuel. What I need to do is stop by my buddies trucking business and look for a trailer to hook to it just to try and get the motor broken in quicker. At the current rate, it's not going to get broken in good till it has 100K miles or more.

Re:Just picked it up!

I have the same problem, nothing heavy to tow, and would love to let it get broken in. Thought about renting a car hauler and towing the E300 to ft lauderdale and back last weekend, but uhaul said the E is too low for their trailers :'( so back to square 1. My 1000lb atv trailer doesn't even get noticed...

Lightman, we will probably be down your way for a bowl game in a few weeks. You are welcome to come up here and get our camper and pull it down there for us

I know my truck was lots happier after i worked it hard the first time!
