Thumbs up Just had 18-037-04 done, my impression...

Just got back from the dealer.

This re-flash was definitaly worth the trouble, which wasn't much BTW. I had the oil changed done at the same time and the TSB re-flash was free.

1.) The truck shifts alot smoother and at more predictable times vs. engine RPM speed. You can predict, based on the RPMs when it will shift. Before it wasn't easy to tell when it was going to shift on my truck anyway.

2.) The overhead mileage computer seems alot more stable. Before it jumped around alot, especially right after a reset, which you'd expect but now it seems alot more stable, even after a reset, and remains that way.

3.) I haven't driven it enough yet to measure any improvement in mileage but based on the computer it looks like there is an improvement but time will tell for sure. I should know by next week when I get back to my usual driving routine.

4.) I also had the high-idle feature enabled and that feature alone is worth it IMO. It works great, just like the TSB says.

I was afraid the dealer would give me some trouble about doing the re-flash but it turned out the service department hadn't yet done the high-idle re-flash on anyones truck.

So they were glad to have a truck to try it out on. In other words, they were glad to have a ginea pig to learn on.

They even copied and kept the TSB print outs I brought.

Bottom line:

I highly recommend TSB 18-037-04 and TSB 18-004-04.

Yeah I'm really pleased with the re-flash too.

So far I'm getting about 1.6 MPG more, and like I said the mileage computer is ALOT more stable.

Just now I was driving home and hit some bumper to bumper traffic, the mileage went from 20.3 down to 19.7.

Withing 2 miles after the traffic was flowing again at ~55-60 MPG the computer was back upto 20.6 MPG.

RThat never happened before the re-flash.

Before it would take many more miles at a nice, constant speed to get back upto 20.6 MPG.

So if you haven't already done it, DO IT ASAP!

Well..............my preliminary results aren't as spectacular. The good news: mileage hasn't decreased. It looks like I'm up about 0.5-0.75 mpg, if that. Also, transmission shifts much better.

Now, the bad news - my overhead is now way inaccurate! I always fill at the same pump, to the brim, several click-offs, eacf time, so I know I'm being consistant. Before my overhead always read within 0.2. Today, it was 1.5 high!

In other words, I hand calculated 13 mpg on this tank. Before, my overhead would have read anywhere from 12.8 - 13.2. My overhead said 14.5.

So.....maybe DC is just making the overhead read high to food us? Even so, I would have still had this TSB done just for the better transmission shifts alone.

Mine starts better and runs smoother and quieter. Seems to get a little better every day for some reason.
Slight miss tic/knock is gone for now.
ODO does not click down at idle as much as before the flash.
MPG appears to be about 1.5 higher, but may be more than that due to cooler ambient temperatures we have been having. Need to run a couple of tanks through it to get a good number on it.

Yes Wexman the smoother shifting alone is worth the TSB.

The other results aren't spectacular, but they're better than what I took delivery on.

The jury's still out on the actual mileage. I need more miles to get an accurate readng.

I'll report back on that when I have enough data.

I just had the same tsb done yesterday, along with the first oil change at 4100 miles..during the short trip home on the highway, the overhead showed a mileage increase of over 3 mpg, and it ran smoother too.
Like dieselnewbie, I too have to drive more miles before i can tell how much the mileage actually increased.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE IN THIS TSB AND THE 007? IS ONE AN UPDATED VERSION OR WHAT? I TOOK MY MARCH BUILD DATE 600 IN AND TOLD THEM TO DO THE 037 AND THE PAPER WORK SHOW THE 007 WAS DONE. I HAVE NOTICED ABOUT A 1.5 MPG GAIN ON THE COMP, BUT I DONT THINK IT IS ACTUALLY DOING THAT BASED ON MILES AND FUEL LEFT IN TANK. I AM WAITING TO REFUEL TO DO A HAND CALCULATED TEST TO SEE IF IT IS TRUE

I had mine done last week and I am real happy with it.

Before the flash and a replacement of the fuel press reg I was getting 11-12 mpg in town. Yes, it sucked and she has over 11K miles on her. The dealer ordered a new fuel press reg for me because my mileage was so bad. This was before the flash but it took so long for the part to get in the ended doing them both at the same time.

After the flash (with just under 1/2 tank on my current fill with the overhead reading 12mpg) she got just over 15 mpg by the time I filled her up. Hand calculated. I am on my first real tank so only time will tell if it's really that much of an increase.

When I cruise down the HWY and hit the reset, she will read around 22.3 mpg instantaneously on a level grade and then she never drops below 20 MPG as an average.

I wish Dodge would have never have taken the instantaneous reading out of the rotary, I think it helps me get better MPG across the spectrum. Maybe it's still there and needs to be enabled, kind of like the high idle. Any know if its still there?

Cheers,
RH

Mileage improvement update:

After a few days of post re-flash driving I figure I picked up an extra 2 MPG with the re-flash.

Can't be sure though until I hand calculate at the next fill-up.

The truck runs smoother as well (shifting, etc.) so even if the mileage doesn't show up at the next fill-up, it's still worth it, but I think it will.

Plus the idle feature is great to have.

To me another 68 miles per tank means another day between fill-ups.

Don't forget this update is FREE!
