Just got my 06 Dually....Trans Questions???

I just got an 06 3500 lonestar dually HO with 100k miles. It was a texas truck.

Do these trucks have diff trans that a 03 2500 laramie HO??? and does it shift diff?

From what i have noticed it shifts alot diff, harder and the timing is a little diff. If i were to punch it on the 06 3500 it will go up to about 3k before it shifts, but if i ease on it it will shift normal. It also seems like 3rd gear shifts the hardest.

It also seems to lag in shifting when u start of slow goin up a hill.

BTW both trucks are auto

Well on my 06 I just got from texas my tranny was acting just like yours. It cost me almostt 1100 dollars. The governor solenoid and it caused the 3rd. gear clutch pack to go out. Also replaced torqe converter. I just got mine from texas not very happy about it. so if that is what yours is doing. This might be the same problem. Also you need to check. the blades on turbo. Just found out mine looks like it has been sucking in rocks!. My truck was not serviced well at all. I hope yours did not come from same dealer.

Heck, it may have a shift kit in it. It may have the wrong fluid in it. It may have never been serviced. The bands could be out of adjustment.

I'd change the fluid and take a hard look in the pan. You got a great deal anyway, so just plan on a new trans soon.

Yeah i just got mine fixed and it was the solenoid and transducer...It still seems to shift alot different than my 03 but everyone is telling me there supposed to shift diff cuz its a newer truck....Mine is already in 4th gear at about 50 mph...i dunno if thats normal???

My 06 had a tranny problem when I got it as well. Leaving toll both at normal speed and then giving it some juice to merge, it would rev and not go anywhere. Dodge replaced a stretched ban that could not be adjusted.

It would never shift at the same place between second and third.

All is well now shifts good. It still does stupid stuff when its cold.

Your 03 was also electronic.. the APPS in the 03 was underhood where the 06 is part of the throttle petal.

The 06 has a bit more torque management off the line due to the higher output, but it should be similar.

Was your 03 a dually? Same axle ratio?

A Smarty Jr will help in that department and make it run a bit cooler on EGT's too.

well weight and rotational mass will play a huge role in throttle responce.. when they are both limited to the same bottom end tq.

There may be a sticker in the glove box with gears.
