Injector Service?

I just had the symptoms of bad injector(s). Loss of power, black smoke and pinging. I went to DC and they said there is a new injector flush available and it will clean my injectors. For only $190 CDN. They told me that they were aware that the quality of diesel is very poor and in addition with the onset of spring some of the runoff is ending up in the fuel holding tanks at gas stations. Scary. So this means that poor fuel quality and storage on the part of oil companies means higher fuel prices and increased maintenance costs for guys and gals like us.

Sorry I had to get it out of my system. I guess a flush is better than replacing injectors, but still.

Let us know how well it did. I have a diesel Motorvac flushing machine at the shop and I want to know if it's of use on these 3rd gen injector problems.

My dealer did the injector flush on mine and made absolutely no difference in performance or mileage.

How does the flushing machine work on a highpressure common rail system?
I would think just filling up the fuel filter canister with diesel fuel injector cleaner/additive would do the same.

The flushing machine would hook up to the lift pump's inlet and would circulate through the low pressure side. I believe the chemical is much more effective than the stuff you get at the store.

Had mine in the local dealership about a month ago, .... complaint was for a clattering sort of tapping I hear that has not been there until recently. Sounds like some little guy inside the engine with a ball peen hammer tapping on the sides of the engine.

Got the usual dealership B.S., "It's normal noise for a diesel you are hearing", but they did state that for $190.00, they could do an injector flush which would help.

Desperate for miracle, and $220.00 later, I think it actually made it worse.

Go figure ! ! !

I am on my second tank after the flush and thus far it has made a huge difference. No smoke, engine is quiter, gas mileage is back to 21MPG and power is back. I am still not happy at the fact that the quality of diesel fuel is very poor.

They actually hooked the flush into the lift pump and ran it circulating through the system for half hour. After that they put some in the tank and that was it. The mechanic working on my truck (he is a certified Cummins mechanic) said the flush is recommended to be done every 40,000km. He also said that if symptoms don't go away in 2-3 tanks, then its an injector job. And because my truck is an 03 they can't do an engine balance test. It is only 04 and newer they can do the balance test on eventhogh 03 are common rail too. Anyways having said that, my truck is running very well and my wallet is $200 lighter.

This sounds a little strange. anyone else agree or is it just me?
