Injector Question

I think I might be in need of some new injectors, I have the cold start issue. Has anyone ever changed them? Are they hard? Iam a mechanic but I work on forklifts. I all ways like to get some input before I start.

Are the grid heaters cycling properly?

Are you using the block heater?

Grid heaters are working, when I plug in the block heater it starts fine. It also has like a delay in start, it take about 4secs to fire up.

Is the 4 seconds the hard-starting part?

No thats just on the normal start up, Hard starting is about two minutes worth of cranking on and off. I just talk to a fuel shop today and they said injectors with the mileage it has on it.

I asked a question on how to change them not what is it doing. I am just answering the questions back. I can take a many post as I want, this might go on for pages FMB. By the way mileage is 150.

Ya started out saying "I think I might be in need" which means to me you want some advice before you go tossin $$ at your CTD. If you have already decided to change them out, go for it. If you don't, fine. Its all up to you to decide how much investigating you want to do before you spend your bucks.

If you want to know exactly how to change them out, go to http://www.hemitruckclub.com and in the left hand collum you will find the '03 service manual available for FREE download. It is around 84Meg if my memory serves me right.

Enjoy your truck,

Are you adding an conditioners? P.S with MMO is a nice mix. I just started adding FPPF seems to be working well. But have not really had any cold nights yet. I would spend $10 in chemicals before you spend a grand or so on injectors

One other thing. What is considered a long time sitting? Have you checked for a fuel leak? Next time it seems like it not going to start easy, cycle the key a few times just like you do after changing the fuel filter. That way the pump would get the fuel pressure back up. If this works you have a leak!

Sitting over night at about 42f, I have tried when I know that it is taken longer than normal to cycle the key over that didn't help it. I haven't noticed and spots under the truck. I have used power service for about two months now.

I think there is a TSB for the 3rd gen trucks for hard start/long crank times. You have to take it to the dealer to have the computer flashed. Might want to change the fuel filter first.
