Anyone experiencing what I will call "relay chatter" coming from the engine with the key in the on position, but with the engine not running?

It seems to be coming from the injectors as near as I can tell. I also have the pinging noise at idle, and have experienced a miss while accelerating.

Ok - I've got about 600 miles on my truck now - the only knocking or clattering I hear is when I'm accelerating - sounds like a gasser with valve knock due to bad gas. I think (?) that's normal for this motor ??? Sorry guys, I'm new to Cummins - I drove a 97 f250 PSD that was so loud all the time, I seem to be hearing every little noise with this one. At idle, this thing doesn't make much more noise than my wife's Pathfinder. Also - I got 14.8 MPG on my first tank - mostly city driving, some 'longer' idle times, and learning how to drive a manual again :-)

 

Yep, that sounds normal. Enjoy your truck, if something is wrong you'll be able to tell.

 

Mine's at the dealer right now getting probably (2) new injectors. Chrysler makes them locate the bad one(s) then switch them to a different cyl. and see if the knock moves before they are allowed to replace it! Sounds like DC is paranoid about dealers changing out too many injectors.

 

Mine starting at idle with about 7000 miles on it and still knocks at 8000 miles. I was going to put some fuel additive but dealer says to bring it in instead so they can ck it out.
