injector explodes
Had to have the mighty Ram towed in the other day.
Dealer replaced two injectors and the lift pump changed to the tank conversion. Then the truck started missing on #1 and then changed two more injectors.
Dealer called and told me that one of the new injectors blew apart,
and that the cummins enginer didn't know what was causing the excessive pressure to the injector.
Starting to think the dealer doesn't have a clue.
Any ideals would help and might give the dealer an idea.
Thanks in advance,
John

I've had problems with dodge and the injectors they replaced on my truck on all three they replaced finally after the third time I took it there for fueling problem they told me it must be fuel contamination and they need to replace the whole system and the only thing they didn't need to replace was the last injector they installed 1 day before. Paid the 88.00 for the advice, and found somebody who knew alot about dodge trucks and cummins diesel and they basically told me the re-mans dodge installs are know good and have a life of 12k miles. Anyways he ended up saving me about $2500.

Cummins Guru
Water in fuel system would cause injector tip to blow off. The water turns to explosive steam under very high pressure and temps. Just recently went to Cummins diesel school. In the class the instuctor showed us several pistons and injectors that were blown apart because of water in fuel. Fuel pressure at the fuel rail is monitored by the fuel rail pressure sensor. If fuel pressure becomes excessive, the pressure limiting valve opens and vents excess pressure into the fuel drain circuit. I would be checking fuel tank for contamination first. Any water found in fuel filter housing?

Its crazy all the horror stories I'm hearing about injectors being replaced and then having issues again. I just went to my dealer the other day and they told me that these re-man injectores that they are installing are falling apart so fast, they can't seem to keep up. They said on average, 1 out of 4 trucks that they install injectors in, have problems within 500 miles. I made a trip across the state and spoke to another dealer while I was up visiting, and they said the same thing. Are these re-maned injectors just junk or what?

Filtration, Filtration, Filtration!
2 Microns!! You have to filter that fuel....and the stock fuel filter in many cases is not enough.
Im considering adding another (yes, a second 2 micron filter/w water separator) on my truck..........in addition to the stocker +2 micron filter im currently running.
FWIW.........I run Smarty on Level 9 plus a MP-8 on 100 percent every day, daily driving or towing. 108K on the original injectors/cp3. High pressure is tough on the injectors.........but high pressure plus water or less than adequate filtration is a killer.

I agree with the filtration being a needed item for any of these trucks. I installed the GDP items very early on before I ever had trouble with the stock LP.
I am at 118k stock inj/cp3....
TexasCTD.. What Smarty software on 9 are you using? What air pump are you running?

It's an old version.....3.11 I think. I guess I should update but im happy with it......it runs so smooth....and I don't really see anybody running more power than mine for what I have so I never bothered to update it.
Air pump? You mean turbo? It's stock for now with an AFE stage 2 intake and a DTT intake horn.

More of the ongoing story.
after 3 weeks the truck is still at the dealer, replaced all six sticks,
Disconnected pacbrake Dealer said that was exploding the injectors.
then it exploded the seventh injector. Talk about inept. Now thay are replacing the pressure sensor, anybody know if thats the right track or just thowing parts at it.
Thanks,
john
