Idled up on it's own today @ warm-up

I always give the motor at least a few minutes to warm-up when <40*. The motor has always idled @ 750 rpm's regardless of temps outside. Today after about 30 seconds or so of idle @ 750 it jumped to 1000 rpm's on it's own ( I wasn't even in the truck). I'm very sure this has never happened before. It's was like "auto high idle". I'm pretty sure the manual high idle feature is not turned on in my truck too. Any ides here?

It is supposed to do that when the temperature is low. It is an automatic high idle feature.

LOL 40F? Yes, that's the automatic high idle. Mine kicks on anytime I leave my truck running for more than a minute or so during these winter temps. Even when the engine is fully up to temp, if I stop and put it in park, 30 secs to a minute and it will kick right back up. Yesterday was a balmy 5F.

High idle has to be one of my favorite features of these new trucks.

When I had my 95 I used to use my extending snow scrapper and wedge it between the accel pedal and the seat to get my high idle

I thought in the owners manual it stated that the truck would idel up to 1000RPM if the intake airtemp is low or if the coolant temp is below 20*(F). The manual high idel is a completely different system.

Yes....all of this is explained very well in the Owner's Manual. There's lots of other good information in there too. You should read it.

This feature doesn’t seem to be very consistent. I can say for sure it has only worked the one time and it has started in colder weather before.

Again, refer to your Owner's Manual. It tells what criteria is required before the feature will work. I don't remember the specifics, but it's all there. Mine generally comes on if it's below freezing.

Living in the Hill Country you're probably not going to get to see it very often.

Mine has been acting wierd lately. It used to work as advertised, you started the truck then after a period of time it would ramp up to 1000rpm. Lately it seems like if the criteria are present to ramp the truck up to high idle, it starts and immediately idles at 1000rpm without any delay.

Anyone else have this happen.

Mine will ramp up to 1000 rpm if sitting cold for a minute or so. When we had a recent cold spell here in Texas I went out and started mine at 18 degrees one morning and it went immediatley to 1000 rpm. Does not do it often but I have seen it when very cold.

I am not shure what the temp is but below it the truck will start and idle emidiatly at 1000 rpm. It has been cold enough here the last month that if I stop at a gas station to get a soda and park in front of the dore it is at high idle before I get inside. That being said it was 45 deg here today. Felt like T shirt weather and tomarow is suposed to be a balmy 50 deg . I may have to be sick and miss work. Its suposed to drop back down latter in the week to normal below 0 temps.

Thanks for the replys, I like the high idle on this truck a lot better than the 02. I would say that this truck is a lot more responsive to the temperature. My 02 you could never really be sure the high idle was coming on. I remember times at 20 degrees after the truck had sat for 8 hours and the high idle wouldn't kick on. This truck has the high idle kick on more quickly. I also like the cruise control control high idle. I never get out of the truck now without the truck at 1000rpm
