Won't run, idled rough and died. '99 24 valve
Hi This is my 1st post. I have a '99 2500 4wd with a 5.9 24 valve, auto, 170k miles. It always starts until...came out of home depot and cranked it and it didn't start. Made a funny sound and felt strange. Cranked it again and it barely started, ran rough and NO throttle response what so ever. Fuel light had just came on before I got to the store but tank showed 1/3 when I tried to start it. I added 10 gallons fuel and opened 3 injector lines and cranked it over. No foamy fuel came out like it does if you run a diesel out of fuel. As a matter of fact the fuel came out very weakly. Opened fuel filter bleed valve and fuel gushed out so i know feed pump is working. It has had TPS issues and it has been replaced 2 years ago. Updated fuel filter housing when old style started leaking at sensor. Has 2 year old feeder pump.
No Codes or check engine light.
My fear is the injector pump. $1100.00 -$1400.00 for a rebuilt. Diesel is over $4 a gallon. need help Please, don't wanna park it. Thanks Peter

if you cracked three lines, and only have fuel dribbling out, spin the nuts all the way off and crank it again. Same story, then your pump is toast.
Most of the time when a vp pump fails mechanically, you get lots of flow and no real pressure from 1 or 2 lines, and basically nothing from the rest of them. If there is good flow/pressure from the lift pump right to the inlet on the VP, and nothing on the high pressure side, again the pump is done.
This type of failure will not set a check engine light, as it is located entirely within the distribution end of the pump.
If you need more troubleshooting ideas, pm me

Thanks A few more questions.
Any one ever purchase a rebuilt pump from Southwest diesel in Phoenix, AZ?
How do you install it? Timing? Where can I source a factory manual?
Regards Peter
