how many of you have had this problem??

Ok i posted about a month ago about the infamous lope that our trucks have... I was pretty much convinced that my trucks injectors was the culprit and i was planning on having them rebuilt at tax time which is around the corner. the last few weeks i have been running two cycle oil in my tank(relitivaly small dose 16 oz. to 35gallons ) i recently changed the fuel filter when i changed my oil (installed the wix high effecency fuel filter) and now truck acts normal to a degree. Fuel mileage is back up close to 20 and the lope is being very intermittent... lope is still there but not near as bad as before. It might lope for 5 seconds then go back to normal. I called a very reputable diesel mechanic in tulsa who is a certified bosch injection mechanic and he is saying he doubts its injectors because of the symptoms i am having now. he also said that he has had trucks that has had my problem that has had new injectors installed in them and it turned out being a pressure problem instead of a injector problem. He said that if i wanted to bring the truck to him and diagnose it it would be a 150.00 for the electrical side and 400.00 for a injector leak down test. I am however working with a limited budget and 550.00 dollars thrown out to him just to say yeah its bad injectors will totally kill my budget to repair the truck. I have a cornwell scanner and i went out today and performed the injector disable test and everything checks out. And no codes are present. truck runs excellent when warm and does not show any signs of injector problems when warm. I have had a few occasions where i have felt a roughness in idle quality but they are getting to be very seldom now. I also decided over the last few weeks to change my normal fueling stop after a friend of mine with a 6.7 was claiming he was getting horrible fuel mileage using their fuel. its hard to say really if anything i have done has helped the problem or if changing places to fuel up is whats helping. Due to the intermittent nature of the lope now and everything i have read i am starting to lean towards a fca. Just wondering if any of you have seen this problem?

I suggest hooking it up to some weight and towing it for a while, make sure the cylinders get baked clean.

I also would ditch the WIX filter, they don't meet OE specs for common rails. Especially since your running a pressure box.

I run a Napa Gold and change the oil every 10,000 miles or every three weeks. It's the only one that has stood up to the miles that I run.

I'm not a 100 percent positive but isn't the napa filters made by wix as well seems that I read somewhere that they were.

The Wix is actually a 8um filter, but they sell it as a 7.

There are only 3 filters that meet the OE Spec

OE (Fleetguard/Dodge/Mopar) 7um absolute
Donaldson P550800 7um absolute
Baldwin PF7977 (Hastings FF1260) 5um absolute

The Baldwin is the best one available..

We are talking fuel, or are you talking that too? As I said WIX doesn't meet OE spec for the HPCR.

Napa filters are made by wix which from what I understand do not water separate either.

thanks for the part numbers AH64ID guess i will look into the baldwin part no. when i return to work. But back to the problem do you think the fuel filter is the culprit here? i've ran almost 8k on the truck since i bought it. previous owner had supposedly just had all services done. however i am pretty **** about servicing a new to me truck. when i pulled the fuel filter it was pretty black(looked like possible fuel contamination)first filter i installed was a wix but i think they gave me the wrong one when i pulled it and checked the part number on there site it was a 14 micron.it looked fine however the new one was the 7 micron(their spec on site).

If you look at the specs on their site its 7um nominal, OE spec is 7um absolute.

I would try to tow or haul something that will allow you to get it hot and burn anything off.. then go from there... I have seen several times where working this motor will kill any gremlins.

i think i'm gonna try a good haul in the next week or so i really hasn't got to work much this winter I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it does the trick. I don't mind fixing broken parts however I'd hate to drop 1200 to 1500 on injectors for the heck of it. I might dose the tank up real good with some power service too.

FWIW I don't use power service. My truck does not like it at all. Howes Meaner Cleaner at half the recommended dose and hard work will get things cleaned up. Then continue the 2 cycle at .64 oz / gallon of fuel.

i've never really been a big fan of power service but it seems to be all you can find around my area...my treatment of preference is shaeffer's but that stuff is really hard to find around here

Amen to that any time mine gets a little ruff idling I know its time to go camping and pull the trailer. It does get rid of some grims.
