how long should the Rear U-joints Last?

i have 48K on the clock and just had to have the middle rear U-joint replaced..

is this common? Dust just fell out of the caps when he removed it.. Very shot.

should *I* have the other 2 U-joints replaced on the rear driveshaft?

I did my front driveshaft @ about 39k one ujoint was bad but while I had it out I did all three to have greasable ones in there but I do alot of plowing. If its back in the truck then I wouldnt bother until one gives you a problem. Doin front axle ujoints now @ 41K but I never did rears.

I had one go out on the rear ds two weeks ago @ 47k miles...

I need to do the front one too, before I get vibrations like the last one, but havent had the time to pull it out and jack with it again...

My rears made it 42,000 before I heard the squeaking going on. Sure enough, one cap was dry! Now I got some greasable precisions in it and no worries.

Lost the rear middle u-joint at 47k. Decided to buy all of them at once from rockauto which are precision greasable joints. I did all three in the rear at the same time since the d/s was out. The rest will get replaced as they run out of grease and burn up.
