Vibration talk! '06 - '07 owners: QC, SWB, 4x4, Auto

OK, I have read all the past posts, nothing seems too recent, so maybe lets get to the bottom of this.

My new '07 from day one has a vibe at 68MPH (my RPMs are around 1700 ish). It is not too terrible, but it is very annoying. I am 99.9% sure it is a driveline. It is there under accel and decel and gone when you coast the gears or feather it to keep load off. It is there even when the truck is put into neutral. It is a classic DL vibe. You can feel the "roughness" as well as hear the "hum ocillations" and "harmonics". It is really not bad, but enough to annoy you on a 50 mile trip. After you have driven the truck for a while, I swear I can feel it at 50 -60-68 through 70 MPH. But that is after about 20+ miles. I know the feel of the 5.9 harmonics, and these are different.

My .01% that questions my driveline diagnostics:
When the truck is cold, and you take off, it is not as noticable, but it is there after a minute or two. OK, I have read where one person changed their diff fluid and it fixed it. This is kinda hard to believe but maybe??

I will be contacting the dealer and will post up any results. I have read everything from a power steering line to exhaust causing the vibes. But I am very experienced at DL vibrations (I build custom Jeeps) that I am positive thats the cause. All the angles are right, the u-joints are tight and my rig only has 800 miles on it now.

Any other experiences or suggestions? I would like to hear from the '06 & '07 crowd with Auto's, 4x4's and SWB QC trucks, so I may take a copy of this post in with me to the dealer and have a comparison with a like vehicle.

Thanks! And maybe we can get some hard facts/info on this problem to find a cure! I like this truck too much to to trade on another (plus this was the last 5.9 I could find).

I have had mine a week now and have not noticed any vibrations. I have a 5.9L, QC, 4 speed auto, 3.73 rears, 4X4, SRW with 700 miles. This is my first Dodge. I was a Ford man all my life until last week lol. So far I am very pleased with the power and fuel mileage.

Mine did it at 70 mph. Dealer put in a new driveshaft assembly and now it does it at 55.

WHAT?? Did you take it back??

So I went to the dealer today and talked to the "New" Service manager. "She" is pretty good all-right. When I told her I had the vibe, she acknowledged right away that she was familier with the problem and actually keeps the drivshafts in stock. But she was surprised that it was on my new '07. She said that they have had a lot of problems with '05 & '06 trucks. I said yep I know, but this '07 is the same as those as far as drivetrain (It's an early '07 w/5.9).

So I have an appointment after labor day. I asked if she would even ride with me to experience the "vibe" or at least the tech. She said sure no problem. I will post an update after the appointment.

I don't know if it will pertain to you guys or not, but I have an 04.5 qc long bed dually and I had the 70mph vibe. I posted this a couple weeks ago with the results I had. I spaced my mid-ship bearing 1". I used four 1/4" spacers and my vibe is totally gone. I don't know if it will help you guys any, but I thought I would let you know.

Thanks for the info, but the QC SWB does not have a mid-ship carrier bearing.

Good buddy of mine bought a 06 4x4 swb auto.Complained of vibration that got your hands, feet etc after miles of hiway driving.Dealer tried some things, tires,a bearing in the transfer case, driveshaft replaced etc.Never did change it.He traded for a 07.5 and said its incredable smooth compared to the 06.He had a 03 that was smooth. That Holmes on the Carson Dodge kinda gets me about ALL Chrysler will pay for is check shaft inclination.Thats BULL.Also he says TAGS are useful! FOR WHAT? Paperweights.

I was not sure if it did or not. I still say that the angle that the u/joints re put in is to much, and driving down the road you are actually making the angle greater. I still believe that if you could rotate the whole axle up a few degrees that it would help. I discussed this with a mech friend and he agreed, he also said that there were shims they could use that would basically do the same thing. Sorry I could not be more help, good luck, I know how aggravating it an be.

When did the '07's come out last year? My window sticker says '07 but my inside door sticker says manufactured 8/06. I have a hard time believing it has sat around for a year.

Ramified5.9,

I have 18K on my truck and have not had any DL problems so far.

BDC,

As for buying an 2007 truck that was made in 8/2006 that is a normal thing, they start to make the new year model starting in August of every year. I bought my 2006 in April, but the truck was made in August 2005 and the engine was made on 8/10/2005. IIRC all 2007's with a 5.9L engine were made between 8/2006 and Dec 31 2006 with 2006 engines. Any truck that was made starting Jan 01 2007 had to have the new 6.7L engine in it to meet the new 2007 EPA smog rules.

Thanks for the information. That makes me feel a little better. It just seems like a long time to be on the car lot and not sold.
