2004.5 3500 SWB vibration 60 to 70 mph
I have a 2004.5 3500 short box quad cab that vibrates at 60 to 70 mph. I have had it to two different dodge dealers now for this issue.The driveshaft has been balanced twice, and the u-joints replaced twice. This helped a little bit. The last dealer installed 3 hose clamps on the back of the driveshaft, and balanced it with the shaft on the truck. He told me the regional Chrysler engineer came and helped with this. I will admit this also helped a little more but the shaft is still vibrating even in the service ticket the dealer noted the vibration is still there, but 50% better. What else can I do? I thought about buying a new aluminum shaft from doghouse diesel, but that is a lot of money for a truck that still has a warranty on it.

Driveline shops that computer balance driveshafts would be another option or you can replace driveshaft.. The balance procedure they did is a very time consuming procedure and not very accurate. I would request the dealer replace driveshaft if you still have a warranty and are not happy with the the results of their attempted balance.. If the driveshaft has runout then replace it since any balancing attemps will never get rid of vibration also if the truck is lifted driveshaft angle comes into play.
The dealer did the whole hose clamp thing, had the shaft balanced twice, and replaced the u-joints twice. I cannot get them to replace the driveshaft, but they cannot fix the darn truck either. I installed a balance masters balancer on my rear driveshaft http://www.balancemasters.com/driveshafts/ and this made the biggest difference of anything to date. The vibration is still there though, and at the same speed.

I was going to suggest the Balancemasters for the drive shaft. If you think it's a tire issue they also make wheel balancers. I have Centramatics and love them.
Mine has done this since new. I have seen many, many posts on the subject without any definitive solution. I think the most success was had by folks who strategically placed the hose clamps on the rear shaft. Mine happens at 70-75. I just try to stay out of that range if I feel the "vibe". Let us know if you figure out what it is.
I noticed a small maybe 1/2" chip missing out of my donut balancer on the driveshaft. I am going to take it in and have that darn donut taken off, and have the shaft rebalanced.
The donut thing I am talking about comes from the factory and looks like a harmonic balancer right behind the transfer on the driveshaft.
