high idle for pto on an 03

I'm trying to get an 03 to high idle around 1300 RPM for a PTO, I've searched but all i can find is 04.5 and up crusie high idle stuff. Can't find anything for an 03. I tryed putting a kicker solinoid on the throttle linkage on the apps sensor and it kinda works but won't set an idle thats steady. the idle will be high and then slowly drops lower. doesn't seam to matter how much i adjust the kicker it won't stay in one spot. So i am wondering if anyone has developed somthing to create a high idle thats reliable. I don't really care what it takes as long as it works

One easy solution I know of is BullyDog Tripledog. It's got a pto setting and you can adjust from 900 to 1800 or 1900 rpms. I'll sell you one pretty cheap. PM if interested.

Sorry, the '03's don't have the high idle feature.

Incorrect. Mine has it since I bought it, but it won't idle to 1300rpm, it will get up to 1000 max. All I need to do is leave it in neutral, cold temps outside and it will idle up after 5 minutes, with or without park brake set. If I sit on it at idle for 5 minutes too it will do same. It might be possible to set a higher rpm through the Tech scanner at the dealer.

I too have wondered about the PTO set-up since I bought my truck. It sure would be nice to be able to idle up on demand especially when its really cold outside. Also does anybody know which sensor tells the truck it too cold outside so raise the rpm's. I wonder if you could install some type of fooler for us 03-04 guys. Hopefully somebody has an idea. On a side note my truck really impressed me the other morning when leaving work at -20* she fired right up and idled up instantly of course even without being plugged in. Thank god for anti-gel additives.

Here are a couple links to the TSB's from Dodge concerning the idle up feature. Good luck.

The 2003 have a PTO option. Seek out a body builders guide for that year or a good truck dealer.

What you are talking about is the automatic idle up feature for when it is below a certain ambient temp.

There is a MANUAL high idle feature that came along in 04 that MikeyB is talking about. You use the cruise control buttons on the steering wheel to idle up from 1100 rpm to 1500 rpm. This is the kind that would be useful for someone needing higher idle for pto.

We are talking about the high idle feature via the cruise control. A must needed option when using PTO driven attachments.
The '03 needs an external box connected to the APPS or use a choke cable.

I checked in my body builder and it shows that there is a pto switch sense wire, but it doesnt tell you what it does, what to apply to the wire or where it is.

OK so i did some looking and it appears that all this pto sense wire does is tell the ecm to forget emissions control while the pto is enabled. So back to original subject, if you are will to spend about $250 bucks and tap into your wires to you apps sensor there is a electronic box that is sold that will high idle.

Pin 22 on the ECU B connector on most of the CR's. On auto trucks its wired to the neutral safety switch, missing on the manual trucks. The pin out needs to be grounded to activate the idle up feature on ECU's that have the capability.

Getting the capability in the ECU is the problem. A lot of medium duty trucks with the ISB come with this feauture all the way back to 2000. The trick is getting the feature into the ECU and finding the correct way to activate it.
