High idle feature

Anyone in the phoenix area know where I can take my truck to get the high idle feature enabled? Dealer wants me to drop the truck off for 1 possibly 2 day's to have it done!! The job takes 5 minutes, if that!!! I'm not going to be without my truck for 2 day's just to have this done. Any help would be much appreciated.

High Idle feature

I feel your pain. The dealership where I bought my '06 has no clue how to enable this feature even though they "supposedly" called DC to find out how. They then told me that DC said it was not available for my truck(wrong! I do have the auto tranny.) I did however find a dealership in Georgetown who said they could do it in less than five minutes but they wanted over $50 to do it. Am I wrong to think that the cost of enabling this feature should be in the price of the truck? When I called my dealership back they said they would contact the dealership in Georgetown and find out how to do it. I am not holding my breath until this happens. Hopefully someone can find out how to enable this feature for me. Surely it cannot be that hard.

Same here...both dealerships I went to had no clue what I was talking about!!! These are supposed to be the same people that fix your truck when something goes wrong. Guess I will never have this feature turned on since they said they need my truck for 2 day's for something they have never heard of....

Go and ask the techs. The service advisors don't know diddly squat. I worked at a Dodge dealer for 2 years and the stuff that they don't know is rediculous. Just kinda go around the buildin and ask em. They should be helpful but you will find some douchebags around!!!

Asked my dealer if they could activate the high idle feature and they said no problem. Total time from drop off to driven away- 15 minutes. Cost 0.

Why don't they just do it at the factory?

go to genos garage's website-print the step by step directions for enabling the high idle feature and take it to the (dealership)-so they have no excuse. it does only take five minutes! i had to do this after i went there (dealership) the first time and they told me it was done and i got home and tried it and it did not work(i should of tried it before i left!) printed the step by step directions for them and it was done the second time- i asked them why i had to do part of their job by printing the procedure so they knew how to do it- of course, they had no valid response!

You can activate it yourself with Bully Dog's Triple Dog...........as well as enabling your driving lights to stay on with your high beams and some other stuff like that. Not sure if other downloaders are capable of that stuff or not??? I see in your signature that you intend to keep your truck stock. If you knew somebody with a Triple Dog I wonder if they could do it for you? I know you can't run the actual Bully Dog "program" on multiple trucks, but I bet you can enable/disable factory settings on multiple trucks with the downloader..........well...........maybe????? Might be worth a shot...................

Try Tempe Dodge....I had mine in & out in 30 minutes...if they have a diesel tech on shift. If the service writer you talk to does not understand, just be firm. During the week, try Sam...On the weekend, it all depends who's working.

Oh, and they did not charge me to do it. I have heard other dealers will charge.

Yea I think I will just drop by the dealer without making an appointment, maybe see if my salesman still works there and see what he can do for me. Thanks for all the input.

Lance.

Tell them you have issues with cold weather warmups and white smoke. That is the header on the TSB. Also remember that on the 04.5's on up that they do not have to do the flash, only have to use the DRBII tool to enable it. My dealer first time I asked him to do it told me that it wasn't available for my year (04.5) as the TSB didn't cover that year, only earlier, well the TSB is for the flash and further in the TSB it gives the directions on how to enable which is what he should have to do.

So can you have the high idle feature on a 6-spd? Is it used via the cruise control or what?

Nope...auto only, from the dealer anyway. I believe if you do some searching you'll find info on how 6-speed owners were able to ground an ecm pin through a clutch switch to make it work.

It works the same way on the manual as on the auto. Enabled in the ECU and controlled with the cruise. There is a kit available from DC to put it on the manuals that includes a clutch switch and pin and wire for the ECU connector.
