high idle
high idle
high idle is enabled and i didn't even know it!saturday am it was in the low 20's.went out to get the paper and warm up the truck.i went back inside to get a cup of coffee and glance at the sports page.came out about 5 minutes later and truck is idling at 1000 rpm.same thing sun am and also today!
Cool thing is, it will do it even after you have driven (as long as it is cold enough outside).
I drove 7 miles to the post office last week, left my nephew in the truck with it running. I was inside about 5 minutes, when I came back out she was kicked up at 1K.
Very cool featture.
Now, if I could only get the motivation to do the 6 speed high idle (controlled with the cruise controls). I have the directions printed out and all.
See post #21.

That is a normal feature of the CTD. It idles up in cold temps to improve warmup times.
The high idle most people refer to here is a manual high idle controlled by the cruise control. It allows you to idle the truck manually from 1100-1500 rpm's.
It is a standard feature on automatics, but look at the above post for instructions on how it is enables in a 6sp. I'd highly recommend it if you are in a colder area.
