Hesitating during shifting
OK – so the tranny is not my strong point. I have an auto and recently I started to notice that if I am driving with a very light foot - normal easy driving, that when the truck shifts from 1st to 2nd there is a hesitation and delay for a second or two, then it shifts. It is almost like it is thinking do I want to shift and is second gear the right one? Then it decides yes and shifts.
I am afraid that something is up with the tranny. The odd part is if I accelerate moderate to hard, the truck shifts fine. Knock on wood, I have not experienced a slipping transmission (maybe because I sell my trucks too soon), so what should I look for if the trany is going. The truck just hit 40,000 miles. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

There is a TSB out about it, but DC is a butthead to get to fix it. Especially right now of all the times.
Mine does it too, I think what you are experiencing is the ever common 48RE shuttle shift. Everyone will probably tell you its "normal". I plan on adjusting my bands soon and see if that improves or worsens it.
Here's a link to the TSB.

Maybe, print it out and take it to the dealer. But, at 40K miles, it'll be out of your pocket to fix it unless you bought an extended drive train warranty.
I have 65K miles on mine and also have the 1-2-1 shuttle shift. I'm not going to worry about it.
Good luck.

FYI I did a band adjustment and it amplified the shuttle shift. Which makes complete sense if you think about it. Now i'm getting nice firm band engagement which just enhances the 1-2-1 shifting.
I have a new solenoid and transducer, supposedly the redesigned ones, that eliminate the problem. I'm having them installed the week after thanksgiving during the routine transmission service. I'll make an attempt to update you on how successful the swap is.

Thanks for all the info. I think I am going to take in the TSB and see if I can get them to cover this under the 100k mile power train warranty. With the .7 hour labor and parts it is probably only a little over the deductible, but that would be a couple bucks I save. I also might check with a couple buddies to see of they think they can help me do it myself. Thanks again.

The 100k warranty is for the engine only. If you have a decent dealer they may do it for you because there is an existing tsb on the issue. If they do not do it for you then I would go with the fix that No_6_oh No posted.
I had mine done at the dealer and it only worked for a short time. It actually got worse. I bought a Transgo shift kit but have not installed it yet. I leaning on getting the GM solenoid fix so I can do it all together.

Well I ended up trying out the DTT Shift Enhancer and unfortunately it did not get rid of the 1-2 shift hunt. It did make the truck shift a little better from 2nd up so it was not a waste of $. After the DTT purhcase I need to save a few more pennies and try the governor solenoid no_6_oh_no mentioned above. I will probably replace it when it is time to change the trany fluid next.
