Hemi vs Cummins

Re:Hemi vs Cummins
I crunched the numbers and then threw them in the garbage. Bought the Cummins the first year it came out in 89, bought the second one in 96 and bought the third one in 99. Don't regret a minute of owning any of the three. A fellow co-worker asked me why I bought a truck as big as the one I have now. I said because I wanted it and because I can. End of story.

Re:Hemi vs Cummins
the numbers using $4950 are above the base engine aren't they? There is an upcharge for the hemi and the difference should be used to calculate payback.

Re:Hemi vs Cummins
Friend of mine bought himself a hemi and I asked him yesterday what he was getting mileage wise. It's been pretty cold up here the past couple of weeks and he was getting about 9 miles per gallon as opposed to my 12mpg hauling 2500 pounds in the back. ;D

However, it is like driving greased lightning he says. :

Re:Hemi vs Cummins
Talked to a new 2003 owner yesterday with the 5.9 Hemi about how he liked it...after a long dealer dislike story he said gas mileage was poor and he wished he still had is old truck with a CTD...he didn't say what he got for MPG but did say towing his contractor trailer with a backhoe MPG was terrible

Re:Hemi vs Cummins
Remember guys, it's a matter of cash flow each month also, unless you bought your truck cash. I strongly considered each. I love the cummins, but I don't pull anything over 3000 lbs. I ended up with a dually HEMI QC SLT off the lot for 30,500(friends and family, rebate). Love the dually, best looking truck on the road is a Dodge dually! I saved 6000 over the closest truck with a Cummins HO and that is allot of gas! I'm getting between 11 and 13 MPG for 6500 miles so far. I gotta say the quietness of the motor at idle is great and when you stomp on it this things shifts and gits, and what a great exhaust note. 345HP for a standard engine speaks for itself, I'll work on 400HP as aftermarket parts come out. It was a tough decision, but one I am happy with, especially when I send my payment in each month.

Haha im out lookin at new trucks. After lookin and lookin i think i might head back to second gen dodge Mother has one ( im 18) and i have a 360 gasser, Im sure about the diesel unless the HEMI actually had the speed that id think they would. Never did test drive one for the fact... Im tired of paying for the 13 mpg haha It sucks. this 10% i never see in the new hemi im like i use to get 16 but what the hell. For about 300 miles after i straight piped the 360 i got 18 haha now its back to 12-8... its got 190,000 on it.
