I was getting worried.<br><br>HEard reports that it gets between 15 and 17mpg mixed use. <br><br>That makes the cummins option pretty much "not feasible" unless you want to run more than 100k miles.

Using $1.38 for unleaded and $1.45 for diesel (today's prices where I live) and 11mpg for the hemi and 18 for the Cummins, it takes over 110,000 to break even on the $4950 HO.<br><br>After that, you're makin' money.

Yes. Another dime for midgrade and yet another dime for premium. Which is the biggest ripoff ever perpetrated on the driving public. There is really only about 8 cents difference between unleaded and premium, yet you pay 20.<br><br>OK, I'll crank the numbers using midgrade and premium:<br><br>Midgrade: 94,604<br><br>Premium: 80,600<br><br>I would be disappointed if the Hemi needs Midgrade or Premium. The engineers who designed it should have taken that 10 or 20 cent difference into account when designing a truck engine.

Actually the pay off for the diesel is shorter than that. The Cummins option on my 97 returned 60% of what I paid for it when I sold it six years later. That is according to the book the dealer used. So the diesel is an even better deal when you look at it that way. And you get that really neat emblem on your fender. ;D

balvert is right on. When I used Kelleys Blue Book to see what my trade was worth, it was appx. $4600 more with the CTD HO than the same truck equipped with a V10. ;D

Also don't forget V-10 hard pull up the mountain. Cummins flying up the mountain. Not to mention I got 7-9 pulling my trailer, Cummins is much more fun to pull with.

I crunched a lot of numbers before I ordered. I figured the fuel alone certainly would not balance out the extra cost, but the resale value would, worst case scenario, even it out. So I'm driving (will be driving) a Cummins free of charge in the long run. Personally, I liked even the SO better than the Hemi, maybe just the smell.

Agreed. My number crunching didn't take additional resale value into account, so the acutal break-even is much lower.<br><br>I personally wouldn't be numbers-driven anyway, but when I buy one, I will keep it for far longer than 100,000 miles. I tend to keep trucks for about ten years. I've owned diesels for many, many years now. It seems to be something that gets in your blood. Most people don't understand it.
