HEMI one ton

Re:HEMI one ton
I don't know anyone yet who's bought the Hemi 1-ton. I was over on pickuptruck.com today and saw some amazing dyno numbers on the Hemi. I think the rwhp was something like 328 and the tq was 360 something. I can't remember now, but it was impressive for a gasser.

Re:HEMI one ton
The Hemi figures look impressive, 345 bhp but who drives their truck at 5400 rpm. 345 lb-ft of torque at 4200 rpm, I only had my 98 Ram 5.9 L gasser up to that kind of rpm a couple of times had 335 lb-ft at 3300 rpm. Not much difference in torque. I would rather have max torque at a useable lower rpm.

Hope fuel mileage is improved in 5.7 L. With 9.6:1 comp. ratio, mid-grade is recommended with added cost of 10 cents /gal. :'(

If mid-grade is recommended, then most would want to use premium. On previous gassers I always got pinging when using what they recommended, and had to go to a higher grade.
Right now, Diesel price is hovering right between mid-grade and premium, so fill up cost wouldn't be that much difference.
MPG figures though?
What are the MPG's promised on the Hemi?

I've had a new 03 2500 reg cab 4x4 with a hemi and a 5-speed hand shacker for a demo for a week or so now and it runs like a scalded dog. I still like my 03 1-ton quad cab dually cumer a lot more but for the guy who doesn't need or can't afford the diesel that hemi is a hell of an engine. After running a hemi that darn ol 360 looks like it is good for nothing more than a boat anchor. I've been getting 15 mpg or so but that is witha brand new truck that only has a couple hundred miles on it and believe me I haven't been cutting it any slack. It's fun to rev that hemi up at the stoplights when your next to a ford or gm cause it sounds so dam good it just kills those guys to see a truck that sounds like that in stock form

Back about one or two months ago we went to see the new 03 3500 at a lot in town, well the saleman gos into a big thing about the Hemi about how much power & pulling you have as to the Diesel.
I was yea but how long will it last well then hes starts it will hold up just as good as the diesel if not better :
I seen somewere that a Diesel motor has like 30% less moveing parts inside of it as to a gaser.
Dont know if its true on not but I like the Diesels better.
Ron.

Tileman, you need to find a better dealer my friend. I find that so many of my competitors know so little about these vehicles. I am lucky because I drive and pull with the trucks I'm selling so I get a lot of knowledge that way that so many salesman never get a chance to get. No the hemi will not run as long as a diesel, it will run longer than the 360 gas engine it replaced but not a diesel. Also a I-6 Cummins diesel has on average about 40% fewer parts than the competitive v-8 diesels(Powerstroke/Duramax) but a gas engine the ratio is even more than that. Tell your salesman to go back to truck school and learn something before he runs his mouth and makes the rest of us in the sales business look like idiots along with him

I hear you Luke S thats why it took like 9 dealerships for me to got my wifes 02 back a few months ago.
About 75% of the dealers here in fla all they want is your money and they will tell you stuff that I have never heard befor.
But I can tell you that in a few yrs we go to get a new dodge ram I will order one out of state from you guys
I owen a flooring comp and you would not beleave the stuff we see & hear that our competitors do to make a buck.

What was it, 20 years ago that the Hemi disapeared?
That's a lot of years to be testing it, 11 million miles wouldn't be difficult.

phox
