Question HELP!! Why can't I generate higher EGT's????

On my last two towing excursions, I've noted a marked decrease in power and also a really odd phenomenon: I can't get my EGT's over 1100 (pre-turbo)?! Normally that might be seen as a good thing, but with the same loads on the same roads numerous times before, I've had to back out of it on the hills to keep EGT's in check... Now I don't have power to pull like I used to, and the EGT's just don't seem to build up. Boost will still peg at 23psi or so. Any ideas???

Just changed the fuel and air filters. The fuel filter looked fine, not even all that black like it has been before, but the air filter was really bad... That could explain the loss of power, but I can't figure out why it won't build heat???

What's your fuel pressure at? Try running some fuel cleaner through it. These are long shots but all I can think of.

Many of the stock lift pumps will show very low and even negative pressures. I would check fuel pressure first.
Low fuel supply = low egt most of the time.

What gear are you in when you noticed this?
On mine while towing the EGT stays around 1100 degrees if I leave it in 6th gear going up grades and the boost is around 22psi. Now if I shift down to 5th gear and start accelerating the EGTs will go up over 1200 degrees and the boost will creep up to 26psi.

BigBlue/Scotty - I was afraid of the low fuel pressure issue... Possibly a pump going out? How can a guy check himself?

MikeyB - I used to have the same thing in 6th or 5th, but now I can't seem to build heat either way??

I'm thinking BigBlue and Scotty may have nailed it with a failing lift pump, which was my biggest fear

You can have the dealer check it or buy a small mechanical gauge and plug it into the schrader valve on the CP3 pump. I'm guessing the 03's are setup some what similar to the 01's.

03's and above don't have a schrader valve, or so I've been told. -Steve

Hmmm, a filter cap with a valve in it? That sounds pretty neat. Then you can just use a mechanical gauge for spot checking, right? Guess I'll have to check into that. Thanks!!
