just to be quick the truck sat for 8 days ( vacation ) i get back fire it up go go to store tranny wont shift out of first. let it warm up shut it off on ect.. still nothing. go to store come out start it now it's stuck in drive and wont down shift so i am driving to the dealer and the trans temp light comes on with engine light shut it off right in front of the door and they tell me friday the earliest to look at it so i go out to start it and it wont start? tried all gears and then back to park and wont start only code it was throwing was p1762 gov. pressure sensor offset imporoper voltage. but why wont it start. i need to move it before the day is over. thanks guys....

 

went back took off batery cables to try to clear codes checked all fuses put back together and still nothing and when i turn the key i dont hear the grid heater clicking noise like i always hear? any ideas?

 

Sorry I can't help. Once folks get home from work (and hopefully not all headed to the lake) someone will give you something to go on.

 

I didn't see it in your sig, but is there a box on it? In any event, if it sat for 8 days, I'd suspect an electrical connection. Are the batteries low?

 

nope no box batteries fully charged....

 

is it cranking over and not starting or do you just have nothing

I find it odd that that is the only code shown.

I'd start by checking the electrical connections on the transmission itself and work my way back to the throttle by wire connection going to the transmission.

I suppose it is possible that the truck thinks that its still in gear.

i thought that at first but if in fact it was or thought it was in gear it wouldn't beable to turn itself over right? or i could be wrong. not really sure but i tried to start it in every gear and it will only turn over in N and D... checked the electrical going to the tranny and then gave up and had it towed to another dealer because mine said they dont have anyone to work on cummins! ***!!!!!!!!!!!

 

Did you notice the tachometer going whacky while you were driving it?

I just did a search on the 1762 code and it seems that the CPS Crankshaft position sensor may also be the culprit.

Putting your truck in limp mode could cause the same symptom as stated.

nope no tach problems i guess its the dealers problem now. all i have to do is go complain and get my 150 bucks back for my tow!

 

so dealer calls me and says they cant get the truck to start ( NO **** ) then they tell me that they have no diesel tech so they dont know how to fix it and they are on the phone with some office wanting to know what to do ? so now what? this is the second dealer i have had it towed to that says they cant fix it... because they dont work on diesels.

 

This may be a stupid response, but I had a friend tell me one time his truck would not start about 15 gallons into his fill up, he opened the hood, emptied out the fuel water valve, and it started right back up first try, said he must have gotten some bad fuel.

Like I said, sounds obvious, but did you try it?

 

thanks for the tip i didn't try it dealer has the truck now so i am just waiting to hear from them .
