Were you idling a lot in winter temps? Why only 3000 mile on oil?

with a new truck i change the oil at short intervals and all sent to blackstone you should see the iron copper and silicons readings at only 1000 miles but if you do acouple short mile changes it gets every thing cleaned out quickly with little unnessary wear on parts

no nothing out of the norm on ideling

any other ideas

thanks

Not too many other ways to get fuel into the crankcase.

O-ring on the CP3 pump to drive gear is about the only other one I know of.

Could be an injector connector tube leaking and cutting through an injector O Ring. Or an injector body with a hairline crack in it.

I like BigBlock2Stroke's theory on the CP3 seal.

Do you have any other symptoms ? Long cranks ?

To find oil leaks on the 6L Ferds they put a die in the oil and then run the engine. I wonder if they could put a die in your fuel, pull the valve cover, command the rail pressure way up and look for it that way.

Just out of curiosity. What defines a 'long crank'? My '05 takes way longer to start than my '00 did, and it always has.

Your post brings up a question (if this is acceptable)....At what point (fuel dilution %)do we need to start worrying the engine "running away" once the oil warms up?

"Just out of curiosity. What defines a 'long crank'? My '05 takes way longer to start than my '00 did, and it always has."

You have to ask someone else about that. I don't drive a Dodge and I never owned anything before a 3rd gen. I'm just saying this stuff in case you were expecting me to answer since I posted about long crank times.

"Your post brings up a question (if this is acceptable)....At what point (fuel dilution %)do we need to start worrying the engine "running away" once the oil warms up?"

The only way it could run away is if the oil got thin enough to get into the combustion chambers and I can only see that happening via the turbo bearings. But there may be others. If he turbo bearings are good, getting fuel through them would be very hard. Once the turbo bearings are shot (because of fuel in the oil) it is probably pretty easy to get oil or diluted oil through them and then you will get a run away.

I guess I didn't say it, but I think 4.5% is way too much and I doubt it is happening from idling. If it really is happening from idling you should have other symptoms like stinky smoky exhaust. If it is happening from idling, I would idle less, change the air intake so it draws from the engine compartment, add an exhaust brake and use it when idling and advance the injection timing.

There is a whole bunch of info about fuel in the oil over on the Ford site. They have that problem.

I wonder if it's gonna be hard convincing the dealer you have a warranty problem, based only on an oil analysis, with no symptoms.

I would think that level of fuel in oil is a symptom. I would certainly not wait 3000 miles to take another oil sample.
