Help - 06 Mega Cab, No power to starter
Help - 06 Mega Cab, No power to starter
Truck has been running terrific. This AM go out and no start. Batteries are fine, turn key on - ac blowers on, radio on, turn key to start - nothing. All power goes off until I return key from start position then the radio and power back . I checked all fuses, etc. There is a small relay or something under the fuse box and mounted to fender well with 13mm bolt that clicks when the key is turned to start. Just figures - always on Sunday.
And it is 114 outside and of course I left my truck out last night, so no shade.
Any guesses? Bad ignition switch maybe? No codes, I checked that first.

I would REALLY like to hear the explanation on that one... What did you do to "arm" and then "disarm" the alarm? It would be my assumption that you most likely have the SKREEM system that has a chip in the key. Every time you put the key in the ignition the module picks up the rolling code from the key and allows the truck to start. If it does it again I would be looking at updating the TIPM as there is an issue with some that have a prob with a "won't crank" condition.
I will check that out. I do have the chipped key. All I did to fix it was get out of the car and push lock on the key, then unlock on the key, got in and it started right up.
What I apparently did this morning was go out to the truck, hit unlock on the key - got in the car, and then inadvertently hit the lock button before or while putting the key in the ignition switch. This prevented the truck from cranking.
I would have thought that would have set off the horn a tootin. I do have the 18 05 06 flash. I will get this straightened out this week.

I still dont know what caused the no crank issue. The truck will start now even if I get in the truck and hit the lock button on the key and then put it in the ignition and start. So that is not what caused the no power to starter. The dealer had no idea what went wrong only to say "we have fixed the occasional no crank by setting the alarm and then turning it off"
Voodoo electronics!
Got the abs recall done while there - took 30 minutes. The dealer did not know of the previously posted 08-021-06 tsb.

I read on another forum something about a yellow wire on the 06' near the starter. It supplies the trigger power for the starter. Apparently, the wire is easily chaffed and would cause the problem you've reported. I haven't checked mine to see if it's a problem.
Here is short details of TSB 08-021-06
MODELS:
2006 (DR/DH) Ram Truck
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Customer may experience any of the following TIPM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's)
with associated symptoms:
B178C - Left Stop Turn Over Current - Load on Left Stop/Turn circuit has exceeded
15 amps.
B166C - Right Stop turn Over Current - Load on Right Stop/Turn circuit has
exceeded 15 amps.
B2215 - Internal Fault - An Internal Fault code counter has exceeded its limit and an
output is disabled.
P1277 - Fault Code Counter Reaches Upper limit Start Solenoid Circuit Over
Current (Start Solenoid Current has exceeded the Upper Limit of 75 amps). Can be
accompanied by fault code B2215, indicating that the faulted condition has been
seen by the TIPM more than 250 times. If the B2215 fault code is present, the
Output circuit of the TIPM will not function, resulting in a no-crank condition.
