Have 03 HO with 105,000 miles. Valve adjust?

Cummins mechanics, please tell me when I need to get the valves done on my 03. I just turned 105000 trouble free miles. I run nearly all highway towing heavy, medium, and empty mix. I get excellent mileage and have had no issues at all. I run synthetic oils, mostly Amzoil, and don't hear the valves, just wondering if I need to get them done soon? I don't trust Dodge mechanics without Cummins experience to tell me what to do and I don't trust the local dealers opinions. Please let me know!

Its listed on the Cummins site.If I remember correct 135k hard usage and 150k lite usage for 3gs.Other year models are differant. But of course can be done anytime you want.

After seeing valve lash out of spec with as little as 35-40k, I would suggest adjusting them. They are not bad to do if you have any mechanical experience, if not make an appointment at a cummins dealer

How much can I expect to pay?

What would a reasonable expected price for valve adjustment, I have a lot of mechanical aptitude but not interested in this task at all. If they do it every day I want them to do this one too.

Don't know what the flat rate labor is on it but 2.0 hours would be ok I'd think.

Been SEVERAL posts on SEVERAL sites that YES they were in SPECS but not in the prefered side of specs.Comments of better idle, little less smoke etc.I know that before I retired WE"shop" went through a NUMBER of 2nd gen 24 valve adjustments in the process of hunting skips and running issues and FOUND all the ones checked to have at LEAST a FEW valves that were on the boarderline of specs. Some of these trucks had as little as 30k on them. That in itself did not FIXED them(injector issue)but they idled better etc.after setting valve lash.

2gen rattle more than 3gens,So we find them out of specs more often. As far as the forums and Internet goes, they are only touch tones statements. The INTERNET has it"s cheerleaders, I am not one of them.

Just pulling the cover and checking them shouldn't take long at all, and if you don't want to tackle it,just put the cover on and have it done if they need adjustment, if not your done.
